And the really good ones train on from three to four as well so that's another potential plus as well.
Looking back through my POTY selections, I see I had £500 to win on Sea of Class. If I had known what I know today that would have been £5,000 (assuming I had that available at the time)
Glad you opted to edit your original reply. Nothing like civilised banter... Wallet a little bit lighter? Had some numpty storm out the pub when I told him it could not win from where it was unless it was Dancing Brave. Clearly the tactics on the runner-up were to come as late as possible. It was last turning into the straight. When Dettori went to the front he was riding hands and heels. The best horse won. Our expert on European racing will soon be along to concur.
Please don't bring in this weight nonsense again.. If Sea of Class had an unfair weight allowance this year then Enable had one last year and Cloth of Stars was morally last year's winner. Rubbish. Enable is 7lb better than she was last year because she's a year older. It's a weight for age (and fillies) allowance and not unfair at all. Next year Sea of Stars being a year older will be 7lb better if she retains her current ability. And guess what she'd carry 7 lb more. What is unfair is that this race wasn't run over the full 12f but 11f and 204yards! Metrication lost Sea of Class the race. No wonder we voted to leave the EU.
I didn’t edit it, the mods did. I stand by EVERYTHING I said today. Wallet much heavier as I had her EW at 7s and the Rev forecast! The best horse at the weights today finished second
Matt Chapman was saying all week that Sea Of Class would come as the fillies version of Dancing Brave and win it. After the race he said the best horse won instead of blowing his trumpet and saying he got it right almost. I was thinking myself during the race only Dancing Brave could win from where she was, almost but no cigar.
Not surprised he stormed out of the pub having to listen to an expert on everything from Brexit, football, racing and anything else anyone cares to mention, or is that me?
I was gonna say he wouldn't be the same in the pub as he is on here but I do wonder! But hey, I life would be boring if we were all the same. If everyone was like me I'd have topped myself at 14...
Seemed a fairly 'clean' race apart from Waldgeist being impeded a touch a couple of furlongs out; might have got third. Enable and Cloth Of stars ran pretty much the same as in 2017. Hopefully we will see an above average three year old colt in 2019. How many more years before they look at the filly's allowance if results continue this way. In matters of opinion let's try and keep it civil. Crap weekend (apart from E/W return at 50/1 on Cloth Of Stars) as both my footie teams pumped! Away to have a nap and (hopefully) a wee dream about Villanelle!
Good points. I think the Enable/Cloth the Stars placing/tie-up is reassuring and another illustration that WFA works. It does seem that fillies have the whip hand at the moment, but I'm sure that could just be one of those things. In the early '70s when Dahlia and Allez France were ruling the roost it seemed that fillies were over asserting themselves. But it passed. Of course in the last 11 years we've had 7 filly winners, but in the previous 11 there wasn't one. A case could be made that Roaring Lion is the best horse in training at the moment. Yet until Alpha Centauri was injured you could have said she was.
Maybe, as you say, just a golden era for the 'girls' with Zarkava, Treve, Enable and the unlucky Danedream. Jings, forgot Found and Solemia.
