Rodgers signings have been poor, so poor that Lawell has been forced to take control of transfers, hes stated multiple times that defensive signings were not a priority for him. Hes a great coach and with the right level of players he can get teams playing great football but he clearly has his flaws and to deny them is delusional hun behaviour.

And according to reports Rodgers identified defensive targets which Lawell failed to snare. That's what he was talking about last week, Lawell seems to think he's the Director of football (like Jock Brown did), and although he's done a great job he needs to remember what his actual job is.

Unless you honestly think Rodgers did not identify players he wanted. Like McGinn for example. He might have made no diff in the grand scheme but Rodgers wanted him and he slipped through his fingers for a the sake of half a mill.

A lesson from history:

Axed Celtic coach Murdo MacLeod last night revealed Jock Brown wanted to have a say in picking the Hoops TEAM. MacLeod was sacked on Wednesday by the Parkhead General Manager, three weeks after head coach Wim Jansen quit the club. Now Murdo has decided to lift the lid to Mailsport on the bitter in-fighting that has WIPED OUT the Hoops' double- winning staff. And he reckons the beginning of the end came when Brown delayed bringing Scotland star Paul Lambert to Celtic because he didn't think the European Cup winner was GOOD enough!

Jansen, MacLeod and Assistant GM Davie Hay have all left Parkhead, despite helping the club win the Coca- Cola Cup and the Premier League for the first time in 10 years. And MacLeod rapped: "I've been wondering since the day Davie Hay was sacked if Jock thought he was contradicting the old saying that no man is bigger than Celtic. There isn't a player at Celtic who'll tell you they've heard Wim Jansen raise his voice.

"But I have - and in 23 years as a pro I have NEVER witnessed the kind of screaming matches between a coach and a member of a club's management that Wim and Jock had. "They shouted and swore at each other because Jock DID interfere, despite what he'll tell you - and Wim always won.

"Jock started by coming into the manager's room after games. "But after just TWO matches Wim booted him out and never allowed him back in because he was offering his opinion too often.

De Vries, Toure, Gamboa, Hendry and Comper are all Rodgers defensive signings. You can see why Lawell had no choice but to step in recently.

The fact that Rodgers seemed so bothered about not getting McGinn had me worried because imo his important targets should be of a much higher quality for the position the club is in if we are looking to progress.

Lawell had to step in? That's not his job Eddie, he's the negotiator, not the scout nor the manager. That's why we have scouts and a manager.

Some of our supporters are too young to remember it seems.

I have a lot of time for Peter Lawell, he does a fantastic job but according to some, DD has stepped in and reminded him his job is to sign the players BR identifies. Don't know if it's true but i'd like to think it is.
