If the Carrillo business is genuinely holding us back but the club identified we need a striker why did we bid of 24m for Morrison, that only didn't go through due to player preference?

I’ll save “terrifying” for WWIII, and even “bleak” can wait til Brexit, neither of which have happened yet.

Our squad looks a bit light on genuine quality; so did England’s in the World Cup. That didn’t turn out so bleak did it?

Seriously, one tweet from Simon Peach and suddenly we’re the football equivalent of Greece? Perspective needed I think.

Or, like, one match last year from being the football equivalent of Greece. When you're coming off a 36-point season, the possibility of relegation is going to be a topic of conversation.

    Good point.

I'd also be quite relaxed about WWIII if Saints won a major trophy before it happened.

Last year we had 31 matches (I think) where we dropped points. My worry is even though Hughes might get a better return with a similar squad to MP’s (just by being a bit better), we still needed a big improvement in the playing squad and to get rid of a lot of fringe/squad players. I don’t think we’ve done either of that.

The teams coming up have invested well (bar Cardiff) and I think are as strong as us, although nothing is certain until balls start being kicked. However finishing 17th means technically every other team in the league is stronger than us before we even start.

My point is, I just don’t think we’ve done enough in the market while a lot of similar sized teams have strengthened well. Could be down to numerous factors both in and out of our control, but another relegation scrap could easily be ahead and that’s probably much of the reason for a bit of negativity before we’ve even started.

Indeed. I bet even Cassandra had moments of optimism though.

If the Carillo deal is holding us back that much then we probably should have waited to see if we could shift Fraser before signing Gunn imo.

I would suggest that RB isn't our biggest issue especially if we are playing with five at the back, Cedric is a good quick defender (just can't cross/shoot), Valery looks a damn good prospect and would like to see him get a chance to play, then we have Targett, JWP & Harry R to play RWB
A goal scoring centre forward would be my priority and a strong, quick DM would be my second and a decent CB would be my third

Could he cross the ball high enough to get past the first defender, but low enough for an attacker to head it?

Right Wing Back is a concern at the moment...

It is I agree but it's not the biggest concern.

Surely it’s striker > winger > right back?

Without double checking numbers, I think shifting Forster & McQueen will open up one more squad space

I’d say there is the slimiest of chances for a loan move from somewhere

Fraser is a big problem literally, but I'm not complaining about the signing of Gunn. Without him, we would be one injury from having to play Fraser....now ignoring the fans' opinion of him, it is more telling that the manager/club doesn't rate Fraser. The reason I give that more importance is that the manager and Watson see him every day in training.....so their concern is telling. Saints rate Gunn and see him as one for development (Gunn's words not mine). A safe pair of hands will earn points indirectly so can't blame the club for securing that position.
