I know nothing about him. Who is he, where is he from and what does he do?

Talk that fee is over 20 million, but fully understandable as he is very promising (if yet another addition to our short arse brigade :)). He could turn out to be another gem.

I will have to go and lie down...am passing too quickly from a single rumour to seeing him in a Saints' shirt.

Midfielder, Norwich with terrific stats for assists. Young, England youth player.

And Liverpool were also reportedly interested, but they want him tested here first before they offer double the price next season. <laugh>

When does Harrison Reed’s contract end with us. I’m sure that may help a deal with us if they want him.

We could have an excellent inside track on him as Harry Reed has played alongside him for the whole of last season. Would be very pleased to see us buying up and coming English talent. There is plenty about at the moment, just look at how the young international teams are doing

Oh, and he scored 14 goals last season. Of minor interest to us of course. :bandit:

Real-by-god number 10. Great shot, dead ball and otherwise, expansive passing range. Badly wanted him in the winter, assumed his last few months put him beyond us. Still kinda assume that, but if we can land him, he's exactly what we need...can run a game at any pace, which is lovely for those moments where we decide that we don't want to run anywhere.

Also, if this transfer goes through, as the person who first mooted the move I feel entitled to a finder's fee equal to 1% of the transfer fee, or Maddison's weight in gin, or a commemorative mug with a bad pun, whichever the club prefers.

Far rather sign players like this than the ageing experienced players that Gao mentioned in our direst moment last season. I understand why you'd want to sign such players, but it isn't really our style and smacks of desperation.

Aren't "little gems" sold in packs of three though?

His name is James Maddison, he was born in Coventry and he plays football.

    Lifted from the Ugly Inside.

Maddison played 41 Championship games for the Canaries last season scoring 14 times, but what was really impressive was the number of chances he created, 54 in total more than any other player in the Premier League, Bundesliga, LaLiga, Serie A and Ligue 1..

Not going to get too excited yet as Spurs were sniffing around not so long ago.

He scores goals apparently. 15 from midfield last season. And he's only 21.

Good players will have lots of suitors, but not all get down on one knee and offer a diamond ring. Norwich appear to have given permission for us to speak to him, but there is many a slip etc. I'm hoping that (aside from money etc) Mark Hughes will be a good selling point....he has a certain charisma and a huge reputation as a player. Must be better at demonstrating a good case than Puel or MP2. Saints also have a reputation for developing players and sending them onto 'bigger things'.

Gah, a bloody 'Saint X' thread. Surely we have learned by now just to keep our heads down and not even utter the name. He-who-shall-not-be-named is not coming here, move on, drop this thread.

If he DID though it would be a very good thing indeed for us.

I put him as a Lallana type player. As long as he doesn't have the same personality it would be a very good signing.

Young, skillfull, attack minded and potentially great re-sale value, although he's not even signed yet !
