We should be doing everything we can to hang on to McNair. He is one of the players that we should be building our future. If we can't hang on to him then we should be getting as much out of the transfer as we can. But, we don't hold all the cards- He's a Premier League quality player currently on the books of a League 1 club. Eventually that will become a problem for us.
We own his contract and don't need to sell, we've got the strongest cards at the table mate. Someone is going to have to buy the pot with a big raise to make us fold.
I think he'll be sold for £4m with add ons to get it up to £6m in time. It's not what we want but it's not what I'd look at as insulting. I'm not convinced he'll have done enough in 2 seasons to convince others he's worth more than the £5.5m paid for him, plus he probably isn't being bought to put straight into a first team so they'll not want to start splashing out £10m+ on him.
It's a good barometer of the new owners and I hope they are fully aware of that (they seem to have a good awareness), make us an offer we can't refuse or we'll refuse thanks.
Premier league prices to me say 10m = talented youth player (for the future) or journeyman who has bee sround the block.
McNair is a proven international with many years of prime football in him. Small minus concerning injuries. So if I was selling the bottom price would be 10m up front and 5/6m worth of add ons, games - goals - international call ups etc. etc. etc.

He'll be a safc player next season if 4m with add on get's offered. He's just had a long lay off with injury, why would we ever entertain an offer of add ons in any deal? That's not how we should be doing business imo

Paddy McNair was Northern Ireland's stand-out player against Panama.
Paddy McNair, with his man of the match performance on Tuesday night in Panama, has certainly staked his claim for a placed in the middle of the park.
And on last night's evidence it will be hard to dislodge him. He produced a terrific performance with his surging runs, neat passing, strong tackles and combative nature. Paddy was constantly looking to get involved in the action and it's no surprise that he scored four goals in Sunderland's last five games.
Paddy is so versatile, especially as a defender, but he's argued for sometime that he would like to be playing in midfield. O'Neill will agree and it just adds to the depth at his disposal in midfield when captain Steven Davis, George Saville and Ollie Norwood return along with Corry Evans.
Gareth McAuley was outstanding but McNair gets the nod ahead of Big G for the man of the match award.
Don’t need to sell so keep him if he’s willing to stay. Owes us a season after his injury history anyhow. If he does go agree it needs to be more like £10m in today’s market.
I think that Sunderland fans more than most other fans understand that footballers are mercenaries at best...not withstanding a handful of exceptions. McNair has no strong attachment to Sunderland. He is a young ambitious lad who will want to ply his trade at the highest level possible. Playing Accrington Stanley will not be a fixture on his bucket list. I believe that once the number has been offered that matches Donald's number, he will be off, and good luck to him. Let's hope that the new manager spends the money wisely...I feel confident that he will.
I understand that he's under contract, but whatever Donald says about us not needing to sell, eventually the lad's head will be turned by the possibility of Premier League football.
It's already been turned(read his comments today), doesn't mean we can't get the best possible deal that meets OUR valuation or make him wait till the next window. It's how proper clubs who value their talent work.
We should not be afraid to retain a player we want to keep. We're the boss. SAFC not Paddy McNair or Brighton. We hold the cards, legally. Hope we act like it.
The only thing that we don’t know is what the new owners have said to him. They have said that they have spoken with all of the players and that McNair was the only one not to have sounded like he didn’t want to play in League 1. I hope to God that we can keep him.
If we get Zidane in as our next manager bringing Bale with him I will renew my season card, but I have been on the kestrel lads. Tack nee notice of me lads I am having a laugh like we will go up as champions I have faith in our new owners and the players they will get us back to the premier league.

Are we not all going ott a bit about Mcnair? He's a decent player ... That's it. Wherever he ends up he'll probs spend more time on the treatment table than on the pitch anyway. I'd prefer to keep him but if he goes and we got 10m that's OK in my opinion.
He’ll go for less than that marra.... and as long as it’s reinvested properly it’s good business imo.
It’s a win-win because if we keep him & he stays fit he’d be a huge asset.
Good to see the Club not just accepting the first offer that comes our way.
