Certain players need moving on but it's already a huge rebuilding job without selling key players. I thought we were paper thin in quality all over the pitch and we've lost a lot of loanees/pissheads etc since then. Get the ****e off the wage bill, decent fee for Khazri and a few quid from the new owners and we should be in a position to recruit some quality (for the league) without needing to sell McNair.
I'm with you 100%. Issue a hands off warning. Tell that lad he's staying and why and that he's going to lead us back into the Premiership with the armband, not sat around on the bench in the prem hoping for an opportunity just to feature.
Just hope we can hold on to him, I would value him at 12-15m., in his current form could be even higher, there is plenty of money around for top players and Paddy could just be one.
We can't just say 'don't sell him' - every player has a price we can't just down any offer. 5m would be a decent deal as you have to take his injury record and our league status into account. Anything above that would be great money.
I think the 2 big questions are will we need to sell him and does he want to be sold? It's one to draw out for sure, you never know, we might shift most of the dead weight and if we can his value shoots up further.
Lots to ponder here, we paid around 4-5m for him, he looks a better player now and his stock is rising, its a tough one and a gamble, but I would not sell him for 5m unless we had no other option. Every effort should be made to keep our better players, if we accept 5m, this may be demoralising for the rest of the squad and affect morale, so if Paddy wants to stay for another season I would be well pleased, as I am sure would his team mates.
We already have a decent transfer fund. Any sales will be used to pay off the 20 million we owe in outstanding transfer fees
I didn't think we'd been given a figure yet mate. Nor its construct. I assumed that SD meant that any income from sales would go towards a transfer pot, on top of anything he can pitch in upfront.
For all we’d love him to stay and he could dominate the league, would it be fair to keep the lad in League One? I don’t think we realistically can, let’s be honest Brighton would be a great move for the lad and could we blame him? I live on hope that he stays as he’s genuinely quality when fit.
We'll anyone can leave if they don't want to play for us, that will always be the case with me, but we should fight to keep our best players if not very best price, I fully acknowledge we won't always be able to 'talk' them into staying.
There’s that line of ‘I’m not asking to go but I’d like to be in the Premier League’. You know it’s understandable and respectful, yet you’d have to give it thought. I hope the lad stays he’s a quality player, but if he goes we must look for a proper fee. In reality a good sale could buy 3 top drawer players for the level.
According to Wiki, McNair cost us £5.5mil two years ago when he signed a four year contract. In that time he's played a total of 25 games, which works out as less than a third. He seems, on the basis of the second half of last Season, to be one of the few who are generating interest and IF we can get a profit from him, I'd take it. We don't know if his injury prone days are behind him, but this league will soon show us.
I wouldn't say he's injury prone, as in prone to injury. He's only had 2 with us it's just one was big one.
