It’s because they’re ahead of schedule. A champions league final wasn’t supposed to come yet. Those holes were to be filled at a later date. Hindsight proves they should’ve moved earlier, but to be this far ahead in the project was unexpected.
No wonder some people think we LFC fans are weird. I hope you were being sarcastic.

Our last CL triumph was 13 years ago and league title about 28 years. And we are ahead of schedule? Even with Klopp it’s been nearly 3 years. How can anyone say “far ahead in the project” with a straight face?

In modern times, how long would you say a LFC manager need to have his team?

so you shop for ****.

ok.

seriously you've taken advantage of the rules. just cos you pick up off casts... that your problem.

Milner was offered a new deal and took our offer.

Matip walked from his club. we did not complain

it would be the height of hypocrisy to complain when one guy does the same to us.

I suggest you keep shopping in the bargain buckets and leave these sorts of problems to the big boys :bandit:

ok so that was a bit cheeky and I apologise.

but the point is absolutely hammered home here... it's just the law and how it is.
Nailed it. A free's a free despite tobes best efforts at cute little synopsis for each one <laugh>

Naismith - Rangers went errrrmmm bust

Hitzlsperger was signed mid season as a free agent after having been released by Wolfsburg

Alcaraz was out of contract at Wigan and they’d gone down and couldn’t afford him if they wanted to.

What a shed load of FAIL <laugh>
So Naismith was FREE
Hitzlsperger was FREE
Alcaraz was FREE

Laughs on you mate <laugh>

I only answered yours and JB’s posts for the craic, as I knew we’d never signed a player on a Bosman who had goosed his club for a large transfer value.

It doesn’t happen that often that a player who a club wanted to keep and who also would have had a large transfer value walks on a Bosman.

None of which was anything to do with my point btw, which was about players working over their clubs.

No it isn’t, as you’ve spectacularly missed the point.
No, it's you who missed the point by making more of mito's simple question - who have you signed on a free? The circumstances of the free signing weren't the issue. You've made it about your take on it and not just a simple answer to a simple question <ok>

I'm not arguing about whether the club expected them to stay or not. Nor am I arguing about mutual benefits to player and club. I'm putting a counter argument to your view of leaving on a free being dishonest. It isn't.

btw Bayern have 6 players available on a free this summer - as mito has repeatedly said - it's common in Germany.

Just to add didn't Wenger say when Ozil was running his contract down that free transfers would be more and more common and the norm in 10 years time.
Wenger was playing a dangerous game with both Ozil and Sanchez, as he allowed them both to enter their final year. ****e management combined with an even weaker CEO, they got away with it......just, but ended up selling Sanchez for a knock down fee, when they should have bounced him the previous window for double.

Both players and their management were playing Arsenal and Wenger was confident of keeping both, why?

Do you think the agents play with a straight bat? <laugh> you do realise that most of the top agents are on 10-15% of the players total earnings don’t you? Plus a slice of the signing on fee?

You’re only arguing the toss as it was a kopite player we were originally talking about. I should have swerved it. Lesson learned.

Pedantic ****e that, the listing of frees signed was **** all to do with the conversation about expensive players doing a number on their clubs, but you knew that...

Not being funny but there's a very good reason for that. The type of player you're talking about wouldn't be looking to go to Everton.

Mito asked a simple question - who have you signed on a free? The fact he said he could name 5 for your club proves he wasn't buying into your players doing a number on the club point.

Yes, from how far out in the wilderness Liverpool and for what the expectations were preseason, ahead of schedule. This Klopp tenure was always going to be a slow build/development period followed by an “all in” period. The “all in” period cane sooner than they expected it to.

My face couldn’t be straighter of it was a line.

I want Klopp to break his duck with a cup final win and I want us to win the title. We've waited too long for that, ridiculously long.

I think Klopp will break his duck in a cup final with LFC. The question is which cup

Think Klopp has been unfortunate in who's he's faced in all his finals. His pretty much faced the favourites every time.

Real and Bayern in the CL, Man City in the LC and Sevilla in the EL (who had won the previous 2). Although he did beat Bayern in the German Cup (who were again the favourites)

I mean where's his Birmingham or Cardiff?

I actually think we'll win the league in 2018/19

Just as an aside. I wonder how different things would be if contracts could only be made for one year, no 5 or 4 year contracts allowed. Every team had to renogotiate with players in the summer. It would make for entertaining summers.

I'm not proposing we change to that model... Just wondering out loud.

I’ve already explained how it’s dishonest, as no PL club is going to allow a player to run his contract down to the last year unless they’ve been given assurances about his willingness to sign a new deal, otherwise they sell and get a hefty fee for their asset.

Suarez and Coutinho are **** examples, as both had handed in transfer requests and were paciified by the club to give them another season, with the benefit to the player being a massive pay rise and for the club a higher fee when they sell, due to the extended contract length. Both the players and the club ended up on the right end of those new contracts and the deals that saw them leave.

If the player doesn't want to leave them the club can't do anything about it.

Fact is, he's been one of our better CMs (**** me sideways) so was rightly playing despite the contract issue.

I think this is actually the last thing that will happen next season. We have more chance of winning the premiership as we will prioritise it, together with the CL. We would have no option than to use our youngsters and the full squad for the domestic Cups. We all know that the gap between our first 11 and the others is massive.

I think it will be premiership >CL>league cup>FA cup in terms of our chances.
