I’ve already explained how it’s dishonest, as no PL club is going to allow a player to run his contract down to the last year unless they’ve been given assurances about his willingness to sign a new deal, otherwise they sell and get a hefty fee for their asset. Suarez and Coutinho are **** examples, as both had handed in transfer requests and were paciified by the club to give them another season, with the benefit to the player being a massive pay rise and for the club a higher fee when they sell, due to the extended contract length. Both the players and the club ended up on the right end of those new contracts and the deals that saw them leave.
Legally of course, that’s a ****e argument. Morally? The best thing for the club he’s contracted to? Bollocks, it’s all about greed.
it's the only business on the planet where that attitude is even considered then. the best thing for the club is not his responsibility. He is an employee. He did his job. if you talked to me about Raheem sterling deliberately not trying a leg to force a move or fake back injuries with coutinho or Owen talking about signing right up until rafa had to move him... ok.. but can simply didn't do any of that. He played when selected. klopp chose to keep him and wanted him so the club went with the manager and rejected a juve bid. can played and imo the only thing he did wrong was not sign a ordeal in January.
Of course it is ffs, as it’s the only business in which employees are intangible assets with a balance sheet value. The club includes the fans, and goosing the club of a fee is something that most fans would have an issue with imo. If in Can’s case it was Klopp who chose to allow him to run his contract out, then it’s poor management, see my earlier post. The CEO should have overruled him btw.
but how is it the persons responsibility that they are put on a balance sheet as an asset? imo this is a very English conversation and quite polite. donnamura in Italy had his family genuinely threatened with death when he wanted to leave a.c. Milan. in Germany on the other side this is entirely normal. frankly if it's good for the goose (clubs picking up the Milners and so forth) then it's good for the gander. tell me.. who did Everton sign on a free?
It comes with the territory ffs they know how it works and by exploiting the Bosman ruling they’re doing so to benefit themselves. Rooney was still under contract at United and was a part of the Lukaku deal, they paid him to go, by in essence covering his wage drop for the remainder of his contract. We’ve now accepted a fee for him.
Honestly, there are few players I hold a grudge against for leaving. Coutinho isn't one of them. If a player wants to leave, calling on them for lack of loyalty is a bit unfair. We all know that clubs have zero loyalty to most players (when they do it's more for PR than genuine loyalty). Coutinho wanted more money elsewhere... Fine. I would go too if offered a lot more money elsewhere. Owen is one player who irks me. Not 100% for going to RM. I could forgive him that, but his claiming to be a mega fan of Liverpool, but didn't refuse Newcastle to push a move to us... And then going to an arch rival and kissing the badge. He stuck the fingers up at Liverpool three times.
... are my examples of players who signed with no intention of staying - that's dishonest. The rest of what you said has no bearing whatsoever on my view of their type of dishonesty over what you claimed to be dishonest - which simply isn't.
Hahaha and you seriously think that the club expected them to stay for the length of those new contracts? Behave yourself, if you actually beileive that those deals weren’t agreed to suit both parties and didn’t come with assurances about allowing them to leave at an agreed point then you’re beyond naive. Those contracts were both mutually beneficial. Remember Coutinho going on about the ‘promise’ to let him leave in last summers window?
And what? Barry was already in his 30’s and City chose to not offer him another deal. Martina, Soton didn’t offer him another deal, due to the fact he was ****e Rooney wasn’t on a Bosman #fail Eto’o was released by Chelsea and was a free agent Cleverley wasn’t offered a new deal by United and spent his last season of that contract out on loan.
Naismith - Rangers went errrrmmm bust Hitzlsperger was signed mid season as a free agent after having been released by Wolfsburg Alcaraz was out of contract at Wigan and they’d gone down and couldn’t afford him if they wanted to. What a shed load of FAIL
so you shop for ****. ok. seriously you've taken advantage of the rules. just cos you pick up off casts... that your problem. Milner was offered a new deal and took our offer. Matip walked from his club. we did not complain it would be the height of hypocrisy to complain when one guy does the same to us. I suggest you keep shopping in the bargain buckets and leave these sorts of problems to the big boys ok so that was a bit cheeky and I apologise. but the point is absolutely hammered home here... it's just the law and how it is.
I'm not arguing about whether the club expected them to stay or not. Nor am I arguing about mutual benefits to player and club. I'm putting a counter argument to your view of leaving on a free being dishonest. It isn't. btw Bayern have 6 players available on a free this summer - as mito has repeatedly said - it's common in Germany. Just to add didn't Wenger say when Ozil was running his contract down that free transfers would be more and more common and the norm in 10 years time.
