As long as we don't get Ozil and Sanchez, we need real quality not bone idle overpaid players like them

I would miss the 2016/17 version of Leadbitter but I didn't really get to see too much of him this season just past.

I read that Telford has been offered an extension to his contract, rather than being released
I suspect a little more to negotiate, especially as they have a new manager
I do hope our manager is having a good holiday

The fact that Telford had very little playing time won't help to persuade him to sign for us which is a great shame because he would I believe be a very good player for us and with so little playing time the new manager might also be reluctant to let him come on loan again

They may offer more money and if they do then fair shout to him for getting a bigger pay rise. I doubt we will see the loyalty of Brown again so soon. We gave him a break when he signed for us. We took him to the football league and up again to league 1. We have been patient with 'all his injuries' and been nice all considering to offer him a new deal. In my mind, he owes us. But if he wants to chase the money then fair enough.

I think its a tricky situation at the moment. When we signed him on loan, Mark Hughes was their manager. Hughes would have seen us play Sweeney a lot the previous season and thought it would be good for Telford. Since then, Stoke has sacked Hughes and got in Paul Lambert, who could get back his loans from us as we had them on a no recall basis. Now Stoke has sacked Lambert and now are currently managerless. I wouldn't blame Telford for wanting to stick around to see what manager comes in and what plans are for him at Stoke and then decide what happens next. I doubt he has been offered a new deal from Stoke just yet without a manager, who may not want Telford. Just a suspicion though.

Issue is, do DC wait on Telford or go and get in someone else?

Thats the issue. You cant sign him yet as he is not a free agent. He is still under contract. Stoke currently has no manager to discuss anything with. Until a new manager is in place, we cant talk to Stoke about if they are keeping him or releasing him.

It wouldn't bother me if Leadbitter left I've never rally rated him to be honest plus he's injury prone.

I thought that you could talk to a player who is in his last 6 months of his contract but if said player was under 23 then a fee would have to be agreed or it would go to tribunal

Yes you can talk to the player. However, he is under 23 so we need to agree a fee but cant agree a fee when we have no one to speak to to discuss a fee as they have no manager. The board could sell but im sure they will rather the new manager make that decision . Telford may also want to stay at Stoke until he knows who the manager is and what his role will be. If he is not wanted then we got a great chance to get him. But if they want to keep him then hopefully we can get him on loan again but if they promise him 1st team football, would you rather drop to L1 with us who hardly played him or stay in the Championship with Stoke getting 1st team football?

The signature of Ed Upson is the first arrival of the summer of Rovers, as the twenty-eight-year-old joins the club as a free-agent, effective from the 1st July.

A product of the Ipswich Town academy, the midfielder navigated the ranks at Portman Road to sign his first professional at the age of seventeen. Temporary spells on loan at both Barnet and Stevenage allowed Upson to gain a taste of first-team football, before switching to join Yeovil on a permanent basis in 2010. His spell at Huish Park was a successful one, as he part of the Yeovil side that achieved promotion to the Championship in 2013-14, while cementing his place in the first-team. A move to join Millwall followed, joining the south-London side for two full seasons in the Skybet Championship, with his stay at the New Den concluding with a season-long stint in the third tier of English football. Upson was most recently part of the squad at MK Dons, where he featured heavily last season, tallying just shy of fifty appearances during the 2017/18 campaign.

In total, the midfielder is approaching three-hundred EFL appearances, with eighteen league goals to his name.

Speaking about the new addition to his squad, Manager Darrell Clarke added, "Ed is someone that I have admired for a number of years. He's a player that has a vast amount of experience at this level and at a higher level also. Ed adds healthy competition to the central midfield positions and we are looking forward to having him on board.”

After finalising the paperwork at the Memorial Stadium this afternoon, the new recruit signaled his delight at getting the switch confirmed at the early stage of the off-season. Upson said, "I'm pleased to finally be here and to have the deal all sorted. I met the Manager early in the week and he's a very ambitious person and I know the club is also very ambitious. I think the mixture of those two things could propel the club into the next division.”
