I think he meant because we don't currently have one. I agree. We're an average team who can't finish.
I think that Gabbi is a natural finisher if he is played to his strengths ie feed him balls to run on too or low crosses into the box. Pellegrino failed to utilise him in that way and quite often put him on in a losing cause from the bench.

How often did Pellegrino start with just Long up front?...it gives a false impression that all of our strikers are **** because Long missed a few.

But you said you're happy with only one.

Yeah, because right now we have less than one. We have Austin and we already know he can’t be relied on to play more than half a season.

We have the right number of strikers in the squad, maybe even too many. It’s just that they are all bad, So however many you bring in, you need to get rid of the same number. If you say we need four quality PL strikers, I don’t disagree. But that means yes, we will have to spend lots of money and four of our players need to go.

I thought that carillo played well on his few appearances, worked hard for the team but did not get any help. When your lone striker is chasing around in his own half the you know you got problems.

I don't really think they're bad, its just we have 3 poachers and long. Before Pelle left we didn't even use poachers. at the very least we need more variety.

Despite all these crap attackers we have we still outscored 6 of the other teams in the league including the one who finished 7th, playing the most boring defensive football ever seen for 30 games. A new striker would be on my shopping list but I don't think we need to go replacing all of them in one window, we would be fine bringing in one good striker and getting rid of one of the ones we have.

A centre back should be priority number one for the summer though

This also depends on how much we have to spend.

If we are prepared to spend big then yes we can let quite a few players go.

Player transfer costs have gone through the roof in the last two seasons.

I think this is why we struggled to buy enought decent players last summer.

Not for me. When he is your loan striker and is replaced in the second half of a game by Long, leaving me thinking that we might hold it up now, then you know Carrillo is not the one. Yes, he worked hard but he was simply not good enough and hand in heart, I can’t recall him playing well at all.

I’m fine with this as well. I’m not saying we have to get rid of all of our strikers, just that if we somehow could that would be great.

But no one is going to give us 25m for our strikers even though on paper that is probably a huge bargain. They don’t want the headache of figuring how to separate the wheat from the chaff for five random **** players of various ages, skills, and playing styles. It’s too much for us to try and untangle in one summer as well, so yes I hope we can just bring in one striker that Hughes or whoever thinks is going to work out.

People don’t think Gabbi is PL quality?

*scratches head*

I think most of us think he's just had enough and is out of here. He's more than good enough, I'm gutted that we might see the back of him.

Did anyone see him on the lap of the stadium, I looked hard but never saw him, made me think the worst.

I really hope Gabbi stays and we get one or two quality attacking midfield players who can supply him.

He could possibly be our 20 goal a season striker. Then sold for a huge profit...

You might want to check my picture on the match thread. He was first out there with his little one.

Why's everyone so quick in wanting to sell all of our attacking players, especially ones that are good enough to be in the squad i.e. Austin and Redmond. We need additions to our starting XI, not a rework of the whole squad.

We need both. Our squad is pretty bloated at the moment; we need to clear out some of the fringe players (sold where possible, loaned when necessary), and put the resources freed up toward some substantial purchases. Back-fill the squad with youth where applicable.
