Fort nite appears to be an online game, gone over my head.

It's a Battle Royals game (think Hunger games). 100 players start and the area shrinks in. Last man standing wins. They obviously play squads where 25 teams of 4 compete. Sounds like Meyler and Bowen hit opponents head on and Henriksen likes to hide and let others kill each other.

I'd never heard of this game until tonight then these posts and also just read a news article about it being a hotspot for *****philes

Sounds like what happens on the pitch.

I'm not a fan of the game by any means, but these articles pop up about whatever game is popular and it's generally hysteria from someone with very little understanding.

Obviously any service on the Internet could be used maliciously, but these games don't even promote communication with strangers. The consoles have loads of settings and barriers to prevent unsupervised kids communicating with other people online. If a parent wants to ensure that their child is playing safely it's easy enough to do.

Was just about to post the same.

It’s up there with video games turn people into killers. Or turn them to devil worship. Or make them lose social skills.

Erm no. No they do not.

fortnite does turn kids into weirdos though, then again ninja gets $500,000 a month playing it

it's unreal the popularity of that game

It's really not. Having just gone through lots of apps my 5 year old wanted on her iPad, there are lots of loopholes and workarounds on parental controls for every game - all of them aimed at u10's. I'm confident she won't figure it out now so I'm happy for her to have them but in a couple of years once she gets an understanding for figuring this sort of stuff out she will be able to bypass them all quite easily without me ever knowing. Consoles are even worse for it.

A couple of years ago my next door neighbours (at the time) best friend got groomed online and murdered by a pair of sicko's so it's not something take lightly.

Edit: furthermore you make an account that sounds obviously like a female and see all the wierdo's and desperate messages you get. My missus used to have an account on my PS3 and you should see some of the **** she got sent.

I don't dispute that people on the Internet are weird. But I do dispute that games like Fortnite facilitate it. Again, I'm not defending the game as a fan because I really don't care for it personally, but it isn't a risk any more than any other online service, and the risk can be dealt with effectively as a responsible parent. I have no idea about the mobile games you're talking about or the parental controls with loopholes in them, but I certainly dispute that 'consoles are even worse for it'. If I had a child I could make them a PSN child account and completely prevent interaction with other people online. If I really wanted to, I could restrict their console from even connecting to the Internet at all.

I remember regularly shooting people with bows and arrows and bashing them with tomahawks after a morning at ABC Minors. Good job there weren't all those computer thingies in those days.

Eve
Played it a few times and don't really see the appeal , massively popular at the moment though

The 14 year old grandaughter spends ages on it. My younger, 12 year old, grandson snorted dismissively and said he supposed it was alright for kids when I asked him if he liked it.

Both of them spend too much time playing games rather than being out in my opinion, though they both do a number of sports.
