Can anyone explain why in the Commonwealth games the male Boxers don't wear protective head gear , but I am pretty sure they do in the Olympics ?

Is to do with Amateur / Professional status ?

If memory serves me right they stopped wearing head gear altogether. It's to do with the head not being able to move as freely when being punched, therefore deeming it safer.

Maybe they're ruled by a different governing body? It does seem pretty stupid that woman don't wear it. They were going to ban head gear years ago but kept it because it helped with point scoring.
