“At the moment, my future is not my main worry,” he said. “My worry is to get Arsenal winning football games. Then we'll see where we go from there. I'll try and give my best as long as I am here. We have to get the team back more confidence. But we need to recover physically first. The programme we have at the moment is too demanding.” - Well it should bloody well be! “Look, I can understand the frustration. What can I say? The League Cup in the middle of the season makes it difficult if you don't win it. It brings a lot of negative waves. The one we lost brought a lot of negativity. On top of that, the game rearranged on Thursday night didn't help us to compete today. The negativity after losing the final, plus the fact we're not in a fantastic position in the league, hits us hard.” - No you don't, you're fuking deluded “Yes, because I've done it before,” he said. “It's the first time I've lost so many games on the trot in my life [actually since 2002]. I believe a quality of manager is to try and shorten a crisis, and I believe I can do that.” - Done what before? Win nothing? “It's difficult when you have just the trousers on,” he said. “It's easy to take the trousers off as well, but when you are naked completely you have to try and find a shirt and get dressed properly again. You can't put them more down.” **** this dude has lost the plot with this last comment. This is happening because the Board, Stan and the Wengerites were so up his arse that they couldn't believe this day could ever happen. I wonder if the Wengerites can easily put their trousers on or are nakedly bumbling through life. Support Arsenal NOT Wenger!
The man is an utter buffoon but then I've been saying that for almost a decade. God knows what goes through genuinely quality players' heads like Ozil and Aubemeyang when they turn up and see they have to play with Iwobi, Welbeck, Elneny and Xhaka week after week. It's embarrassing.
May i just point out a couple of things in favour of Brendan Rodgers 1. 2. Causing the best matchday thread meltdown ever between a couple of you guys. Seriously whilst i don't think BR is great he is better than his rep . The transfer policy at Pool during his time was a shambles due to the arrangements in place at the time with a transfer committee. His biggest problem is the ****e he spouts which colours peoples perception of him. As for how long it will take to turn round Arsenal i think us & ManU should show it aint easy just to turn it round immediately whoever you get in. Personally think your squad is better than it looks but you have no set system / plan leaving the players rudderless and leading to totally disjointed efforts - though some seem so dispirited that with what they are doing i'm pushing it to call it effort.
Re. the Man U situation. They've spent years trying to turn things around because they got rid of quite possibly the best manager in the world who was in charge of a largely mediocre squad of ageing players who he was able to help massively overachieve. Anyone coming in to try and replace that was on a hiding to nothing. They now have a very good squad of players, but still have a rather negative manager who's publicised seven footballing principles explain exactly why they're still nowhere near where they once were and why they never will be with him in charge. It's nothing like the situation at Arsenal, in fact it's almost the opposite. Whoever comes in to Arsenal will be replacing one of the worst managers in the premier league, with a squad that actually has some young(ish) top quality players who are massively underachieving. There are clear squad deficiencies in some places, yes, but also some top quality. Swansea, Chelsea, Leicester immediately spring to mind as examples to show how quickly certain things do turn around when you excise the rot.
The more annoying Wenger post match response for me is when he said “the only thing we can do Is stick together and get through this” ...yea or we could part ways and bring someone else in? Seriously how is the only solution in his mind to “stick together”
Don't want to say it but the guy is a bloody leech. I wouldn't mind if he showed one ounce of humility but the guy is such an arrogant deluded individual that thinks we should thank our lucky stars he's stayed with us for so long. I really don't know how some can stomach him now. For me it's so sad, i used to really like him but now can't wait to see the back of him. It's the things he says that really gets your back up. He could get relegated and still wax lyrical about himself. What a chief.
Wenger has apparently told his coaching staff that he won't step down this summer. Seems like he's determined to see out his contract and it could provoke further divisions on the board, where there are apparently now several directors who want to replace him. Gazidis is also pushing for change, and the Mislintat and Sanllehi appointments are a step towards a new structure where Wenger doesn't control everything. This is a real shame, because it seems like Wenger is going to drag this out for as long as possible and the club may end up having to sack him, which would be a sad end to his reign because he should bow out gracefully, rather than going down in flames. That said, no manager should call the shots on when his tenure ends and if it comes to it, then the board need to step and and remove him. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/...t-he-will-not-step-down-this-summer-bj85cxx5v
Good to know there are agents of change now. Gazidis being the most telling as he was previously in favor of Wenger seeing out his contract. There's definite division at board level which at least gives hope there may be some kind of change but where will we be if he stays another season? We're already in free fall.
Yeah thats what i figured. There's NO Way he would step down. I think it's fairly unlikely he'll get fired as well but I would guess these next Europa league games will be the deciding factor for the board. But if I had to put money on it. I think he's here for another Season - unless we finish bottom half of the table.
I suspect that this is just Wenger saying what everybody would expect him to say tbh. My hope would be that if the board make it clear that they are going to replace him this summer and he can either decide to resign or be pushed, then he will come onside and we'll hear that he's left by mutual consent. If he digs his heels in though, then this is going to get messy.
I guess a lot of it will also depend on whether Arsenal can get somebody lined up in time for this summer. We're talking about less than 3 months until the end of the season.
No - I think it depends on winning the EC. I honestly think that most people are shocked at us losing so many in a row. When we used to lose games in the past, we still looked like we deserved to win most of them, or at least were well in the running. The last few defeats we have lost, we deserved to lose, and we never looked like we were going to win. I could forgive Wenger a lot when he was just losing and we could haggle about a few individual mistakes, and injury or two, or when we out-shot other sides 10 to 1 and still lost. This is a whole different situation. Yes it looks worse because City are on top of their game right now, and neither game was at home, but we have never been out-classed even by a team at the top before, more than once in a blue moon. Those losses against City were not bad performances, the combination of our tactics, our players and our performances was not even close. We could replay those games 100 times and we would win maybe 1/100. That is not good enough. And we are losing too regularly away from home to teams we should beat. Something has to change, and the only thing that can really change is the manager. Everyone on here knows that I have supported Wenger to a fault always, even when I was the only one doing it, but now he has to go. I don't have an issue for him to say that he won't walk; I understand that there is a little bit of honor there perhaps, but the board now need to fire him at least at the end of the season and get someone in to start next season. Fans don't always know best, but when you start getting % polls in the high 80s, you have to listen. It is an entertainment industry, and you have to give the crowd what they ask for.
Not if they have all your money up front. Can you pay for your STs by instalment (direct debit etc) ?? If so, a mass of supporters could quickly cancel that, and it would be quickly felt on the club bottom line.
Too much apathy among the fans. This forum is a great example of it. It used to be a hive of interest but slowly died a slow death because of our decline under Wenger. Ultimately it all comes down to when HE chooses to leave, so most of us are resigned to that fact. That's how little faith we have of the management and Wenger to do the right thing. If he ends up staying, his last year will be excruciating.
The Sun is linking Allgeri with Arsenal today. (if Wenger leaves this Summer) Make it soo footballing Gods!
Problem is there are no quotes of any kind, just some rumours of him learning English and that he would accept Arsenal. I believe that we are a very attractive proposition for most managers out there and Allegri would be one of them, but would our Management/Board have the foresight to do something about it now? I don't have the belief that they would. Who knows I could be wrong and Wenger bows out this summer, but I won't hold my breath.
Not how I see it. I think this forum started to die because all we ever see is negative post after negative post. We all know the club is in trouble and needs changes, but Jesus wept, how many more threads do we have to have on the same subject? It is just as easy to post about the positive stuff as it is the bad, but some seem to be loving the doom and gloom a little too much. It's become something of a bad habit for a few. One prominent poster only ever posts when we lose ffs! I think he may be a HIAG sock. Anyway, COYG's
