It's all total bollocks John ... Danny Murphy says that Mahrez has "outgrown" us ... had Coutinho "outgrown" Liverpool then? ... if the answer is yes - fair enough .... but you know Murphy wouldn't ever admit that ...
Tbf, the first we heard of him wanting to leave was last summer. The only offer was barely £30mill from Roma. Are we **** selling him for no more than Sissoko! It was quiet all this month until deadline day. Had someone come in with a serious offer earlier in the month then I really doubt we’d have blocked a move. What’s the money worth with no time to replace.
I never saw the hype with Coutinho. Yeah he scored a good free kick v us but so could most people against Schmeichel (being is major weakness). Difference are, he is Brazilian and not Algerian and played for Liverpool not Leicester. It’s that simple
Can't disagree - .... provided the club's valuation is met ... and in a market where an average Brazilian has recently gone for £146 million and a Dutch defender for £75 million, an offer of £60-£65 million made up of a player plus cash for someone of Mahrez's quality and with 2 1/2 years left on his contract is, frankly, bollocks ...
If the bid had come in for him on the 1st of January I think it would have been accepted. Trouble is, on deadline day we have no chance of replacing him. I have no problem with Mahrez wanting to play for Guardiola and Man City. But I want the best for City. We were well within our right to want a massive amount of money. I think he'll go in the summer for about 60-70m.
not really. Just think it's a shame for Mahrez thats all. Part of the reason for that is people think Leicester are setting a price too high (subjective how much he's worth but no one is going for 95m). It's a shame for him as he's helped you to a title and he's already stayed an extra year when he could have f'ed off. Admittedly he signed a new contract so part of the blames on him but if he doesn't sign that (which also benefits him) then his value to the club just drops
nah big difference, he could do it all and he did it over a number of seasons. Mahrez smashed it but that was only 1 season. Last season he had a mare and so people rightly thought he was a 1 season wonder. He's showing what a good player he is again this season but this would only be the 2nd season that he's been brilliant. Plenty of players have smashed it for the small clubs and done **** with the big ones -> aspas, downing, darren bent etc etc
As I’ve said before, we clearly whacked the price up as it was deadline day. Guaranteed he’d have gone with the clubs blessing if it was earlier in the month. Sorry but the club and fans were there before and be there after any owner, manager or player. The club is most important not an individual player. Sure the owners could have said go and left themselves short but what message does that send out? If he knuckles down and works hard, he won’t have missed his opportunity.
... I think this proves John's point on preconceptions Phillip Coutinho - Prem games 136 - goals 36 ... over 6 seasons Riyad Mahrez - Prem games 127 - goals 35 ... over 4 seasons Both players have reached double figures for goals in one season only Mind you - there is a 'big difference' - Mahrez has won the title in his most successful season ... other than that mind
Tbf I don’t think Coutinho could claim for have had one season where he smashed it. And anyway, I’m not even claiming Mahrez should have gone for more. Some on here seem to think Coutinho should have gone for like 3 times more and that’s bollocks. Mahrez has had 3 and a half seasons in this league. 1 and a half (title and this season) he’s been absolutely smashing it. First season we came up, he like the rest were getting used to the step up. Second half of that season he was very good as well, nobody took any notice of us as a club then so anyone claiming he was crap then are guessing. That leaves last season, his worst of the lot but he still weighed in second half of the season and came good again. So I’d say, equivalent to 1 poor season, equivalent to one good season and a season and a half smashing it. More than some players who go for obsene money have done
Not sure what Coutinhos spread of goals etc was over those seasons but at best it just means he was more consistently average. And as I’ve just said, Mahrez has only had 3 and a half season, he he keeps his form up this season it’ll be 2 top class seasons, a poor one and a good on
Of course Leicester should look after themselves first, we'll have to see how it plays out but if you don't get 95m in the summer (or even 75+) and mahrez doesn't really figure/plays like dog turd then it will be a failure on the clubs behalf as you aren't hitting your valuation and you have a toxic player in the squad. Anyway, i wasn't having a pop at leicester they can do what they want as chelsea did with costa, just that its more of a shame for Mahrez
It's good that they stuck to their guns in one way, but you have to wonder if they have shot themselves in the foot by not letting a player who obviously doesn't want to be there go for maximum price. Time will tell on this one.
This 'failure' ... cost us £465k ... suspect we might just make a profit when we do sell .... I'm rather pleased we couldn't be bullied into accepting Mangala and £30m cash tbh ... we have some very promising young central defenders coming through our development squad and have absolutely no need for a French Titus Bramble
Fosse is having a ball my friend ... as the Mahrez v Coutinho comparison demonstrates ....us 'chip-on-the-shoulder' Leicester fans love dispelling a few myths y'know ...
i suppose david silva is **** too , his stats are poo poo compared to most. Coutinho is a playmaker, anyway if you want to bring out the stats Mahrez 127 games, 35 goals (7 from the pen spot), 24 assists. Goals involved in 0.4645669 per game Coutinho 152 games, 41 goals, 35 assists. Goals involved in 0.5 per game So he's done more over a long period.
