A signing!?!?!

I have to confess that whenever South Today does an item about the Summer Solstice at Stonehenge, as the footage gets going I can here Sir Alec Guiness in my head intoning, “these aren’t the Druids you’re looking for..”
Whenever I see footage of Druids, I always do. And some of you always will, now.![]()
Wonder what Sam thinks about this.![]()
I assume you mean the next 18 months.Sam will never have a better chance to make it with us than the last 18 months. Hope he chooses wisely.
I assume you mean the next 18 months.
He's had a couple of really good loans to help him develop and get regular playing time. Big hit at Blackburn and has shown he has the right mentality to push through a barren spell at Birmingham to win the fans over.
Nope, last 18 months. Boat, missed.
Providing we shift some big earners like Charlie, Manny & the new boy. No certainties.
But that's for another day.......
(had Sam been here this season, he'd have got at least five goals, of that I'm certain.)
Peter Coates, a British football writer who covers Argentinean football for Marca, Gazzetta, WhoScored etc (among others) has this to say on Carrillo - the following are his tweets today...
He's a pretty classic number nine - is very good in the air, can hold it up and link play but has a decent touch. A good finisher so with confidence & decent service he should score goals
It is still a bit of a risk to pay that kind of money & perhaps he won't be prolific but could still be very useful for Southampton. His aerial skills should provide a focal point to brings others in

This signing is very underwhelming but I appreciate how well you guys are trying to convince yourselves that he’s better than what he is. We’re desperate for a signing so he’s now a world beater....fact.
Top scorer by March now I’ve sad that.
Well his goal scoring rate is pretty terrible, but he sounds like the sort of player we need and the team is set up for. Hopefully having him in the side helps others score goals. I hope he is actually good at holding up play though, unlike Pelle.
Graeme Souness pretty much nailed it on Sunday. He said we don't need a fine footballer, a lovely, cultured player.Seems to be a bit of a straw man? I don't see anyone claiming he's a world beater.
I don't think anyone expects us to bring in a world class striker. The best we can do, and it is likely all we need is an average-to-good PL striker. There are many options, Carrillo might be one of them. I'm just hoping he is as good as Austin or Pelle. I'm no scout, but I don't see why that isn't possible. If so, then this is a bit of an overpay, but with today's prices plus our desperate need we were never going to pay less. We had to make a move like this, and this is who we chose. We'll see how it works out.
Not sure how you can be certain. I'm not even certain he'd have got 5 chances with his limited time on the pitch.
