He went out on loan to Besiktas in Turkey in 1988. He scored 14 goals in 24 appearances. Did him the world of good.
The boy from Hendon is training for a week. He might have a talent and be a player that has had to drop down divisions to get game. Personally, a weeks trial is a good gamble.......not only in football ability, but also work ethic and mind set. He however might not fit in with what Ollie needs so all round it is a good idea - everyone has something to win and not lose. As has been said before we have spent big transfer fees and wages on players that have not performed - this trial will not break the bank. Maybe he is our next Sir Les. Put into context, we had Stuart Wardley (£15K for a couple of years from non league) who ran his heart out but very limited ability and we let Caulker go for zero having cost minimum of £8 mill plus. You do have to shift through rubbish at charity shops (non league) but has been said before Jamie Vardy came from there. Now just suppose.....this weeks trial....identifies someone that might just maybe......
Sounds like classic QPR under TF. Problem the Mackems face is who would give up over £5 million to sit on your arse for the next 18 months? You can guarantee someone will sign him when he's finally out of contract, same applies to Caulker, they'll both play at a lower level somewhere...
At last - the penny is dropping among the fan base. If he's not good enough, fine. We find another one and we invest in scouts not agents. We did it with great success previously and can do so again. The next time an agent comes knocking, lock him in a darkened room and beat the **** out of him especially if he has robbed us in the past.
But we didn’t get what we paid for, we paid big money for and to Bosingwa, SWP, Park, Caesar, Caulker etc etc. I’d far rather be shopping in the basement for the odd bargain than buying over priced crap from Harvey Nicks.
Wheeler linked with a move away...he is 26 so probably should have been linked more to the first team than the youngsters coming through http://www.devonlive.com/sport/football/transfer-news/former-exeter-city-star-david-1080996 Despite a couple of promising performances, the right-midfielder has played just nine minutes since the start of December, and with no news of an injury, it appears that he simply hasn’t done enough to feature.
It's so bloody annoying that so many promising players we bring in end up in this situation, WTF is going on?...
Ok thanks, maybe not a good thing to say for the lad but had he known they were there he may of put in a better performance.
So Charlie was overpriced? All you have done is taken one moment in time and using it for your argument. It doesn't work like that. Yes, you get some good talent in the lower leagues but most are there for a reason. You also get some crap players up the higher end but that's football. The reason we got players like Boswinger/Park/Ceasar/Caulker was because of the manager at the time and what the club wanted. If you believe that filling the team with low quality is the answer you are wrong. Another thing you forget to mention is where are we now compared to where we were before? The more we dilute the squad the further we will fall down the league.
