Right - time to be a negative Nellie!!

Last nights game suited our midfield perfectly - we have a trio of workhorses. They haven’t got the quality to be on the ball and pass progressively.

City had most of the ball which meant our workhorses could do what they do best which is harass and put them under pressure. If you look at pretty much all of our goals, we created pressed and forced errors in dangerous areas. We didn’t create chances through intricate passing.

Now we’ll be up against Swansea where we are likely to have the majority of the ball. This is where we will struggle because our midfield can’t create. I really hope we bring in a quality mid this January because I do feel we can get second.
Totally agree and being honest up until selling Couts
I thought we had an outside chance of winning the CL
Now I don’t as we need that creativity when we play teams like Swansea to open them up
Will see Monday night
Gonna go for draw so not to be negative :)

We scored 4 against the runaway leaders, who'd only conceded 13 in their previous 22 games. If we can do that with work-horses, we might be dangerous with a creative midfielder.

Missing the point Saint - against teams which have most of possession, it suits our current midfield much better because we create chances through forcing errors in key areas.

Against teams where we have the ball, it will be interesting to see how the same midfield perform because they will be required to use other skill sets to create.

Apparently we smashed our pressing stats yesterday - record levels. In fact, we have seen great levels over the course of the season. Lays to bed the myth that Lallana is key to pressing.

We'd have annihilated the stats if Lallana had played. Probably would have scored more and conceded less too [HASHTAG]#keyplayer[/HASHTAG]

I agree. People are going to hate it, but I suspect that is what Klopp has in mind.

He could surprise us all and switch to a back three, would make sense considering the FBs but not seen anything to suggest he'll do this. Nor do I want him to, really don't like a back three.

With somone telling him what to do it may work

Or it may not....
Looked at without prejudice, Lovren is the one with the most physical prowess amongst the available partners for VvD. Something isn't quite right with his head, but maybe that can be sorted out with a leader to play alongside.
This is all conjecture, of course, but I just feel that this is what Klopp has in mind.

I take your point, but there's more than one way to create openings. Coutinho's craft and skill are one way, but drive and determination is another.
Gerrard wasn't the most talented of individuals, but he made things happen through strength of will. We haven't a like for like replacement for Coutinho, so we need to try a different approach. Ox has said he wants to be the new Gerrard - a lofty ambition certainly, but maybe he can take his chance to drive the midfield?
There's plenty of creativity in the front three if we can get it to them.

He was actually a very good defender at Southampton too when he had Fonte to guide him and a DM to protect him. We've got VVD go guide, now just need a DM to protect and he'll be fine. Wouldn't be my first pick though...

When we sold Cout and people put that stat up about us having a better win % without him, everyone told us it was a fake stat because most of those games when Cout didn't play it was against **** teams, but the ones he did where against better teams so we were always likely to have a better win % against the **** ones.

Now, not saying we wont miss him, but we haven't struggled this season in those games as much this season without him because this year we have 3 others who are a danger. Teams used to team up on Cout restrict space and the rest couldn't get involved. Now, teams can't double up against Salah, Firm & Mane leaving more space open.

I've noticed this too but it's ll a matter of opinion mate. Doubt a poster as said both, more likely to be different posters views.
