Southampton are reportedly keen on an unlikely move for
Barcelona attacker Jose Arnaiz.
According to a report from Spanish news outlet
Diario Gol, Saints are among a host of clubs that are willing to cough up Arnaiz’s release clause, stated to be worth just £20 million.
The 22-year-old has only been at
Barcelona for a number of months, with the young forward having joined the club from Real Valladolid in the summer transfer window.
Arnaiz is, without doubt, a hugely promising player. When he has been given the chance to impress in Barca’s first-team, namely in the Copa del Rey, he has delivered. It seems somewhat unlikely that the Catalan giants would be willing to part ways with such an impressive young player, but his release clause could be an attractive proposition for potential suitors.
The prospect can play on either flank and is also a competent forward, as he has shown by his impressive finishing for
Barcelona B this season.
It would be a huge, if unlikely, coup for Saints if they were to secure Arnaiz’s services. However, they will face competition from
Arsenaland
Tottenham for his signature, if Diario Gol’s report is to be believed.
