Saying that you sound like a couple of unhinged people doesn't mean that you agree with them about everything. As for forming your own opinions, how did you come to the conclusion that the EU is a communist super state that wants to kill anyone who thinks? What are you basing that on, exactly? Communism as described by Marx is close to impossible to achieve. Revolutionary attempts to achieve it are almost certain to end in disaster because they put excessive power into a small cabal who simply can't resist using it. The EU is heavily criticised by the far right and the far left. The right don't like it because it provides a legal basis for preventing states adopting far-right policies and the left don't like it because it is essentially a capitalist institution and also prevents some far left wing policies being adopted. Personally I think it is the acceptable face of capitalism and is a flawed model for international co-operation, which we are going to need a lot more of if unfettered deployment of technology is not to destroy the planet. The fact that it is an obstacle to the loony left and the rabid right is just icing on the cake.
Winston Churchill was also one of the founding fathers of the EU - hardly a communist. I think it has to be remembered that the original concept of a European Union was conceived in the wake of WW2. At that time it was considered inconceivable thst there should be another war in Europe. And that the best way to avoid that would be to unite Europe.
