This propensity to go for players that are 'Bitzers', average at best but can fit in here and there is not the way forward. We should be looking at players that are good in their best position. A team full of utility players as they used to be known won't get us very far, Perch is another example and Cousins seems to be going that way as well. It also suggests lazy scouting...
I agree. Some versitality is good but I'd rather players specialise in a given position first and foremost but could help out in others when the squad is stretched. I'd like to think it would take silly offers for us to lose Luongo or Freeman.
Just a thought: With all the players leaving us (or so it seems at present), does this mean Ollie has got a deal in place to sign Messi's left leg and foot ion loan to the end of the season? We cannot afford a whole Messi so wondering whether we can get parts in only.
If I recall correctly, some of us viewed this (signing JET) as a bit of a punt, relatively cheap and worth a go. Clearly it hasn't worked out and his attitude appears to have been part of the problem. I remember when we had the much-travelled Leon Clarke (on loan?) and he never looked like scoring a goal ever again. This season he has scored 14 in 19 appearances for Sheffield United. Some guys do turn it round!
I'd be happy if one of our bits of business this window was to give Robinson a new contract. Think he's proved his fitness well enough and his deal ends in the summer.
With respect, he was still on our books so had never ‘left’ as such. And again with respect, I didn’t say all players.
Same applied to Freeman when we signed him from Brizzle City. Doesn't have to mean anything. Agree though that it's a worry he isn't getting in to a poor Burton side, at least City had a decent side when Freeman was there.
