I think the striker Robinson wants is Danny Hylton from Luton. Very hard (impossible) to see the Belgian Tightwad putting up the money. If we drop out of the play off positions I can see players leaving.

Who does he mean by "the board"? Not Roland. Any bets we get Hanlon or Umerah back from their loans. Robinson should stop trying to raise expectations. The best we can hope for is that a deal has already been struck to sell Konsa, freeing up the money for a decent loanee.
The process Robinson had to go through to sign Best on a two month contract doesn’t inspire confidence that the purse strings are about to be loosened.
As you say, why is KR coming out with this stuff? My hunch is to win the fans over against the owner.
Why is Robinson saying now that we need more firepower, and someone to compete against Josh? We needed at the start of the season, to every fan it was glaringly obvious!

Danny Hylton scored for Luton Town again today. I can see an ambitious club snapping him up in January.
Meanwhile, back at the most unambitious club in England, it is quite conceivable that Sheff Utd will come knocking for Holmes again in January. Ricky will surely depart this time if they do, knowing we now have next to no chance of promotion.

You may jest about Hylton, but a Luton supporting mate has told me that we are very, very interested in signing him in January.
Luton can name their price then.
If we are expecting to get something like £5m for Ezri Konsa, Danny Hylton could have a price tag on him of at least half that much. And if our 'very, very' interest does not extend to paying that amount, then somebody else will.
The selling club holds all the cards (assuming their board are not witless prats like ours), which is why buying in January is such a bad option.
About the only leverage we might have would be the threat to turn Hylton's head and thus possibly wreck his usefulness to Luton for the rest of the season. Not something to be particularly proud of.
In my view the January window is primarily for emergency purchases; to help teams out when things have gone wrong for them and buying a player is their last viable option.
To have 'strengthening your squad in January' as part of a plan for the entire season conceived back in the previous summer is ridiculous. Any Club that does this must know they will have no control over the potential cost of players in January. It's a strategy which makes no sense financially, so it would never be approved by an owner like Roland.
The whole thing is surely just another pack of lies sold to fans through the manager we are supposed to be able to trust - the one who claims he gave us our team and our culture back.
Can anybody see Charlton paying £2.5m or £3m for Danny Hylton? Are we really that interested?

2. Holmes - if RD wants a bit back
3. Fosu - if Meire wants a bonus this season
Going by RD's history they're gone already - the only hope we have that he won't sell them this time, is the effect it has on a possible takeover.
