It was fairly even the 1st 3 days in 1st test. We need to keep up the intensity for the whole 5 days then we have a chance.
We aren't in a bad position here. We'll have a new ball coming up against the middle order. If we can keep it tight and the run rate down while continuing to chip away at the wickets we could have them for less than 350, which I think we would be pleased with.
In hindsight, the conditions and it being a day/night game seemed perfect for us to have a bowl first.
Had Anderson bowled fuller we’d have had more wickets in the first session. Every man and their dog could see that we bowled too short. I can see us getting completely blown away on this next day.
From the minute he made the decision I did not hear one person that agreed with it, The Aussie captain said if he had won the toss he would have batted England I take it still have your full confidence to perform when batting ?
One big difference that I see between the two teams is on bowling at the stumps, the English bowlers obviously have another plan, I would expect the Aussie bowlers today to be bowling mainly at the stumps , be interesting to see which is most effective Lived 35 years in Sunderland, 47 years in Australia Support Australia
He'd likely say that even if he didn't mean it. I don't think anybody could have full confidence in an underperforming batting side, the talent is there, definitely. We have arguably the strongest middle order in the world, and we bat right down the order too. If we start to fire, we'd take all the beating, that's for sure.
Yeah, I agree. Our only realistic hope now is taking our time batting and getting as close to the Aussies score, as possible. The game will more than likely end as a draw. Go 2-0 down and it's series over, because we are at the Wacca next. The conditions are suiting the Aussie pace bowlers, we should definitely bring in Wood for the next test. He'll get into their batsmen.
Well it went as expected - completely and utterly being outdone by their bowling. If Wood isn't 100% I don't see any point in bringing him in now. Realistically Plunkett should've been there and playing ahead of Woakes, Ball and Overton.
I fail to see how anyone could be critical of Overton. Even I was disappointed that he did not get 50.
I wasn’t once critical of him so not sure where you got that from. I’ve actually been rather impressed with him. I just feel that Plunkett would be more effective than all 3 mentioned.
Typical England....too little too late. Some great bowling but even if we bowl them cheaply tomorrow I can't see our batting cope with the pressure.
