But buying success is no longer that simple. Look at the mancs who spent huge amounts post Ferguson and although have won some cups have not had the success expected if money spent equated with success.
In a way all the big clubs are trying to buy success. Have Real Madrid and Barcelona not been doing this for decades? They buy (or extract ) the best players of other teams. Real did this to the mancs with Ronaldo and Barcelona doing this by trying to buy Coutinho and others for enormous amounts. What about PSG buying Neymar for nearly £200m even though the club didn't want to let him go. It seems every big club is at it. What about Bayern who buys any key player that emerge from their German rivals? City spent the most money last summer and therefore they should be top? Doesn't Pep deserve some credit for identifying the weaknesses and then buying to strengthen?
We are not buying top expensive players. But is this a virtue if we are not challenging the likes of City for the title. I wished there was a trophy for the best achievement for the least money spent but I don't think this would be a valid measure of success.
To be honest Carl my post was just Diego bait, but I agree with what you say.
