I cannot understand why Davis gets slated in this board. I think he is one of the first name I would put on the sheet. That said, I agree with your assessment of the other players even if I would retain Long who always puts in a shift whenever he plays. He just needs someone to play off against up front. It must be frustrating for Gabbi but I am surprised that no one seems to have mentioned Cedric's crossing which always makes me despair. Oddly, the best thing this season is that we now have decent competition for the central defence whereas last season we were fortunate to have Maya and Stephens step up to the plate. I would like to see Boufal given more of a chance and surely he must have now edged away from Tadic in the selection.? The big problems for Saints in recent years has been a lack of contribution by the midfield amongst the goal tally.

Ian, it feels like you come on this board sporadically, post your opinion and then make comments about things you're surprised at on this forum... if you only read it more often you'd see that there are a lot of people who regularly mention the things you have above.

Namely: the value of Davis, the poor crossing of Cedric and Boufal being given more of a chance

Sometimes You post like a man who has been locked in a vault for forty years and comes out surprised we dont think about using solar panels for energy.

I'm not surprised that you always seemed surprise.

We don't need to completely change our squad - I think we are very close to having a top side. Our defensive unit, so from Romeu and Lemina back, is absolute class. Gabbi is also a brilliant striker. It's just the 3 positons we use behind the striker and back up to Gabbi we struggle with. Tadic and Long need to go. I'd then bring in 2 creative midfielders who will be a goal threat and create chances. I'd then get a target man up front to give us options.

It might not even need the players (though I would try that too). I think we need just two words added:

HIGH INTENSITY

Exactly. What worries me about MP2 is I don’t see anything in the psychology of the players that makes me think he is anywhere close to managing this squad effectively. That for me is at least 70% of his job, more so than tactical nous etc.

Players that *could* do it, don’t suddenly become players that *can’t* do it overnight.

I'd imagine gabbiadini is ready for offers. Long and Austin may as well not be here at all. Davis needs to be replaced. Tadic is a lost man. Redmond does nothing much of note ever. Forster is a different player than he was under koeman and needs to be gone from the starting 11 asap. VVD is here on borrowed time anyway and Bertrand probably should have moved on in the summer. That about covers it I think. I reckon that about 11 new first team players and outlay of 300 million pounds would sort it out.

How the hell would we be able to sell FF? He’s on a 5 year & reportedly one of our biggest earners which must put him in the £60-90K bracket. Who would buy & pay anywhere near that!? He’s gonna be here for a long time me thinks.

As I said yesterday, Joe Hart is only on loan at West Ham. He may not be there next season. And we all know how much the West Ham owners love to over spend on a dud.

Alternatively, Celtic could take him back.

Celtic can't pay those sort of wages.

If we sell Gabbi... <doh>

It is the fail though so I wouldn't read too much into it. He probably wants out though.

Totally agree, however they have slowly gone downhill for over a year now IMO.
Whilst I don't believe MP2 can get em playing again ( hope I'm wrong) it certainly didn't start this year.

You are correct TLL, look at the signs on his twitter account .....he likes the QPR tweets and nothing about saints ....he is pissed of.

Yeah he hasn't seemed settled for a while, but I remember having a chat with you on the way to Hull game from the pub on my birthday.
