I'm no doubt showing my ignorance, but if he didn't have a written contract, is the discussion about 'implied' rights or something?

You know but don't want to say.

Too busy sorting fc kit out when he should have been doing his job getting the pitch done.

Guess we'll find out when the findings are given out.

    Just so I'm prepared..

    1. If there's no compo, the justice system is broken, but Ehabs face got a slap anyhow
    2. If there's a little compo, it's a huge slap in the face for Ehab and justice for the groundsmen
    3. If there's substantial compo and/or costs are awarded to the groundsmen it's a huge slap in the face for Ehab, justice for the groundsmen and we should be all out getting ****ered on gin

    Is that about right?

Kinda surprised no one from the protest groups didn't rock up to the hearing and heckled Ehab on his way in.

Also, can anyone say if the pitch has been better/worse/same since these pair got sacked?

His relationship with FC is fairly irrelevant, it's only whether he was working on his own time, or the SMC's time, that is an issue. The SMC were perfectly happy for him to work for FC previously, just not on their time (he claims he was working on his own time in lieu, but the whole arrangement seems very slapdash).

Do you have a link where it says the smc were perfectly happy for him to work for fc?

I've known quite a few lads who've been moonlighting and bosses usually turn a blind eye as they've known the kids in question were strapped for cash.
It nearly always got messy and they'd be skipping work early or be on sick and working their other job. Summat happens and then they lose their job.
As I said earlier it's tricky in this case proving it as it's at the same site.

Further concerns were raised over Mr Cook’s role as a kitman for Hull FC.

The SMC allowed him to carry out those duties so long as it was done in his own time and did not affect his role.

And, as Samuel Goldwyn said, a verbal contract isn't worth the paper it is written on.

Don't FC usually play on a Sunday which is usually a non working day and Friday nights which is also out of hours for normal work? If so, how was he working on SMC 'S time?

Probably less. The accounts have an average of 241 employees with wages (inc. Employer's NI) of just over £1m. That's an average of about £4k per employee.

Edit: oops, you're on about FC rather than SMC.

I'm no employment expert, but from the sound of it, by the employer admitting wrongly dismissal, it looks as if these guys might get their jobs back and/or compo, but the law can be very strange.

The SMC has 241 workers and the wage bill is 1 million a year all in? might go back in with my 5 quid offer to buy the SMC.

Is it ok that I don’t know anything about the evidence, and have no idea whether they were up to something dodgy or not, but still hope they win because it means that Ehab will have lost?

Most of their staff work seven hours, once every two weeks, for minimum wage.

Oh they will. Specially the financially smaller/weaker targets, HMRC will pull their pants down.

Interesting. Stupid thing to do, there was obviously going to be a clash of interests.
No. He put his work for the scum above getting our pitch ready for our game.

The SMC withdrew all their claims about the pitch not being good enough, they were completely made up, the independent report they had done actually said the pitch was well maintained.
