What alternatives in the vicinity of Bolton? At least it seems your prime example, Boro, you accept as flawed.

Well, Sunderland and Newcastle are nearer to Middlesbrough than the nearest club of note is to Hull.

As for sporting alternatives in the vicinity of Bolton I suggest you look at a map. You might recognise a few places where fans wouldn't have to travel far to watch other clubs.

Always no end of excuses for lack of support in Hull. Surprised nobody has linked it to being bombed in the war, another stand by to excuse any short comings in Hull.

What excuses, my question to you was no more than that? Somebody, just one, has linked it to being bombed in the war, you, in a weak and boring attempt to bring the thread to your tired hobbyhorse of criticism. The irony simply drips from your keyboard.

Bolton's only just over ten miles from Old Trafford.

I know, I go there often. Despite popular opinion, most residents of Bolton would rather support a Bolton team than a Manchester team, which, I believe, was the point. In Hull the alternatives are other Hull based teams, which was certainly my point.

There are far more alternatives in the vicinity of Bolton competing for support then there is anywhere near Hull.

Jeez do you need it spelling g out again.
3 pro clubs and also way to many support other clubs.
Surely you can see this.

Your response is nonsense.

Have you read both interviews?

He should have challenged him on the stupid name bollocks, but he didn't shirk any questions on the membership scheme, he asked what I'd expect any of us to ask.

The membership questions where OK, but could have pressed more for details of how projections are better then expected etc....

Is there a third part to come? If so I hope some real questions about transfer activity and players being sold and replaced with loans etc.

He did talk about transfer activity money didn't he? No more money etc. Though I could be wrong, I read it at 5am this morning.

So no one from Bolton goes to support other clubs, most of which are nearer to Bolton than they are to Hull, that Hull folk support?

Rugby doesn't take that many away, especially when City are doing well. Or don't have a pair of vindictive twats in charge. In fact FCs crowds are down slightly despite them doing well.

Did we not have rugby clubs competing for support when we were getting massive crowds under Carter or in the mid 1960s? The rugby clubs didn't stop us getting good crowds in the PL until the Gruesome Twosome started alienating everyone. Well, nearly everyone. Some still try and defend them but that small band gets smaller by the day.

FC's crowds were actually up this season, at least according to James Smailes.

I used to work with a Liverpool fan - I loved telling him that I'd been to Anfield more times than he had, sitting in front of the telly wearing your replica shirt and pathetically basking in their glory does not a true fan make ......... loathsome plastic ****s, Hull (when I lived there) was full of 'em.

I am sure I read they were slightly down. Maybe I was wrong. Though maybe it just referred to league games and didn't include cups and playoffs.. In any case I wouldn't expect Rugby League PR agent Smailes to say anything less than positive aboutb RL.

The Independent Online
Egyptian-born Assem Allam is often dubbed "one of East Yorkshire's most successful businessmen" and it might be true as he's said to be worth £185m. He's been in the news lately after announcing his takeover of Hull City FC, so cue lots of publicity along the lines of: "his track record in business suggests he is a man who knows what he wants and just how to get it".

Well, not always. A 1992 edition of Lloyd's List reports: "Efforts to sell Hull-based Ruscador Shipyard as a going concern have failed.... Ruscador was a wholly owned subsidiary of Tempest Diesels, a Lincolnshire firm headed by Assem Allam.... Financial difficulties besetting Tempest Diesels led to Ernst and Young being called in to administer both companies.... The cessation of operations [resulted in] the redundancy of the company's entire workforce of more than 50."

Why has this detail been forgotten? We may never know. Allam's spokesman does not return my calls.

Lest we forget what a useless pair of ****s they are
It hasn't been forgotten. If you know the Allam history or local business history you know all about it. It gets mentioned on here from time to time and its in the public arena. Entire workforce made redundant yet In the same year, he incorporated a purchase of the companies assets through a new company, Allam Marine Limited. Seems that whilst most suffered (e.g. made redundant) as a result of 'cessation of operations' one did rather well out of it!

You shouldn't refer to people who "support" clubs from elsewhere as fans. They are vicarious ****s.

Though maybe the explanation is you work in a diverse environment in a job so attractive it has attracted people from all over the country.
I tend towards the they are a set of vicarious ****s explanation though.
