One reason among several to hate the Oscars is that the studio will spend loads of money just to get their film and actors on the shortlist for an award http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-35613630
I see a group of smug assholes who will win awards regardless of how good the picture/ acting actually is.
Yeah, the industry itself has a lot of faults (much like football) but this is a grump about the individuals. It’s a bit like blaming Rickie Lambert for the Ballon D’Or.
Where have I "Grumped" about the individuals?. I am complaining about the Oscars and if the Don't watch it comment was aimed at Me,...guess what I don't watch it or SPOTY. The original question was about paying to see SPOTY but as with any conversation it can lead elsewhere and i happen to comment and agree with Clem Fandango My utter dislike for The Oscars.
Sorry, I quoted you but was suggesting that Clem was having a grump at the individuals. For what it’s worth, I don’t watch either one as well, I just find the instant reaction of “they get paid enough” and “smug” as pretty distasteful.
I have no problem with award evenings, but rarely watch them....apart from the end of SPOTY sometimes. I have no problem with them as I'm damned sure I'd enjoy an award if I got one. Had my moment when I received a writing prize...did I feel smug....you're damn right I did! Went to another writing conference and someone praised my work and my award....unaware I was sitting there. Someone pointed me out and smug doesn't even get close. I'm all smuggy again recounting it. The main question was would you pay to go. I wouldn't as I suspect there is a lot of sitting around, though watching as a show is produced could be interesting. If you want to see a group of your heroes it could be worth it. As said, £45 is not a lot these days.
For the record, I received an award in my last season of playing football for the local veterans team. I was awarded a certificate with a picture of a 3m sq piece of grass. I was, and still am, very proud to have been recognised by my team mates and to achieve, "Least Ground Covered in a Match" for a fat old boys' veterans team, takes some doing *im expecting a round of applause and appreciation for this, because I wasn't rewarded with pay for doing this.
I am recognised by some of my peers for being a little loopy and occasionally dangerous to know. I received no award though.
