I'm sure lots of people like watching it on T.V, but back to my original question would you pay 45 pound to watch it?. I never knew the audience had to pay for their seats and was quite surprised that they cost that much and wondered if anyone here would pay to watch it.

That's fair enough Fran. The key word for me though is entertainment, and I don't find this or other shows of it's ilk to be entertainment. I can't sit through hours of celebrity back slapping and ass kissing just to watch some sporting clips, especially as I only really enjoy watching footie and a bit of cricket. I suppose my real issue is that I'm not an avid sports fan so the awards sort of leave me cold.
I love movies, but can't stand the Oscars either so on a personal level, these shows just aren't for me. I certainly wouldn't pay money for a seat.

I wouldn't personally, but compared to, say, going to a Premier League football match or a gig by a top band, £45 isn't actually all that much nowadays. It depends on what you want to do for entertainment I suppose. Maybe this is one way that the BBC can get back some money other than through the licence fee.

Watched the film 13 Hours last night, a dramatisation of the attacks in Benghazi. Well worth a watch, if only to get some context around something that quite probably helped lead to the orange baboon being voted in as POTUS.

You couldn't pay me to watch an awards show. Industries patting themselves on the back. It's just a big circle jerk.

It's not something I'd rush to do, but if the opportunity came or someone suggested it, I would. You'd pay more for an evening at the theatre (which I'd also do).

I don't understand why someone would have such a seemingly bitter or aggressive reaction to an essentially harmless event.

I'm not having a dig, just genuinely found this strange :(

Award ceremonies in general. These people are already rewarded with their pay cheque.

Yes indeed, they must be crushed and grateful for the lucky life they have.

Or maybe it’s popular, people enjoy watching, and a great deal of these people have sacrificed a huge amount to maximise their talent, and deserve to be paid. There are programmes that celebrate ‘everyday heroes’ too, but people don’t tend to watch them.

That’s one thing the Yanks have over us, they applaud their sporting/musical etc heroes and are aspirational. We can’t wait to moan about the fact we aren’t them.

So life is all about the money for you then? The industry awards in my industry are a good way for participants to show their appreciation to those who have done something new, something good, are fun and a great opportunity to discuss in a relaxed environment topics that sometimes get left behind. It's also a great way to learn from our peers.

    None of us are celebrities.

I'm glad she's done that. I was a bit a taken back by the reaction and the reaction here. I didn't comment because I felt I may have missed something. I genuinely didn't see changing from black to white when I saw it. The message I got was "skin care for all skin types"...
