I'm sure lots of people like watching it on T.V, but back to my original question would you pay 45 pound to watch it?. I never knew the audience had to pay for their seats and was quite surprised that they cost that much and wondered if anyone here would pay to watch it.I'm with Fats on this, we all need an excuse for a celebration and it does us no harm at all to see our sporting greats wheeled out for a bash once a year. Despite our country's size, we punch above our weight in world sport and it's good to be reminded that we're better at cricket than the USA, and better at both rugby codes than India.
Ok, probably bored you all senseless but here is my last Santorini sunset for the year. Back home tomorrow

That's fair enough Fran. The key word for me though is entertainment, and I don't find this or other shows of it's ilk to be entertainment. I can't sit through hours of celebrity back slapping and ass kissing just to watch some sporting clips, especially as I only really enjoy watching footie and a bit of cricket. I suppose my real issue is that I'm not an avid sports fan so the awards sort of leave me cold. It's an entertainment show where we get to review the past year's sporting achievements. The winner is the most popular person and team....may be deserved for sporting reasons or because of how much a person is loved (hence personality in the title....rather than best sportsman/woman). How popular the sport is can also be a factor. It's fine when viewed in that context. I don't watch it so much now, but used to love it for all the sports clips...especially good in an Olympics year. No winner has had me calling foul....I usually can see why they won.
I wouldn't personally, but compared to, say, going to a Premier League football match or a gig by a top band, £45 isn't actually all that much nowadays. It depends on what you want to do for entertainment I suppose. Maybe this is one way that the BBC can get back some money other than through the licence fee.I'm sure lots of people like watching it on T.V, but back to my original question would you pay 45 pound to watch it?. You couldn't pay me to watch an awards show. Industries patting themselves on the back. It's just a big circle jerk.I wouldn't pay to see any awards show.

Watched the film 13 Hours last night, a dramatisation of the attacks in Benghazi. Well worth a watch, if only to get some context around something that quite probably helped lead to the orange baboon being voted in as POTUS.

Award ceremonies in general. These people are already rewarded with their pay cheque.I don't understand why someone would have such a seemingly bitter or aggressive reaction to an essentially harmless event.
I'm not having a dig, just genuinely found this strange![]()

How context can be everything.
So life is all about the money for you then? The industry awards in my industry are a good way for participants to show their appreciation to those who have done something new, something good, are fun and a great opportunity to discuss in a relaxed environment topics that sometimes get left behind. It's also a great way to learn from our peers.
None of us are celebrities.
It's the Oscars I really hate. http://dujye7n3e5wjl.cloudfront.net...-photos-ellen-degeneres-oscars-selfie-100.jpg
