Amy Winehouse, a supreme talent that left us far too soon, was born on this day in Southgate, in 1983....

Great version of a great song, her vulnerability shines through that performance. Thanks for digging that one up SA! It's crazy to think today would only be her 34th birthday!

One of the things that struck me most forcefully while watching the great movie Amy, was just how incredibly valued she was by her fellow musicians. The regard the likes of Mark Ronson and so on held her in is well-known but the legendary Tony Bennett put her right up among the greats alongside Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee and the like. She was a very rare talent indeed, but her vulnerability was ruthlessly exploited by those closest to her and that destroyed her.

Happy Birthday Amy, wherever you are. <rose>

Yeah, I can remember seeing her singing on Later, with Paul Weller and Jools Holland and Weller giving Jools a look as if to say "wow, this girl can sing!".
A very sad and tragic loss to music really.
