The EU populous do not matter because they will not be consulted. The eurocrats have history of not accepting any view which varied from theirs. You obviously have not listened to the Macron boy recently and Juncker this morning. If Macron can get his own house in order, (doubtful) then Merkel will look at further shared financial responsibilities starting with a European Finance minister as a prelude to tax and spend integration. Ireland will soon be joining the UK outside of the EU if that looks likely.

The system already exists with the rest of the world using WTO rules. There is no reason why the present paperwork, which works fine, would not be suitable for this additional business.
There is no system in place that would be able to cope with the massive increase in transactions. The new CDS system that's already been 4 years in the making, and is nowhere near ready yet, was designed with a planned capacity of roughly half what the post Brexit volume will be.

Major Govt ICT schemes take on average 5 1/2 years to implement.

Can you please state then why the government say it will not work. I watch lorries turning up at Dieppe and going to customs with their paperwork. It takes about 15 minutes for details to be logged onto the computer system. A percentage of lorries are opened up for searches, and all of them have probes inserted to see if there are people in there. They arrive in Newhaven, and are taken into a holding area and have to present their paperwork again. Seeing as they have all arrived at the same time they will be held up far longer while everything is checked again. This is the traditional system, and you think it would be alright for the more developed fast flow operation at Dover.

There is no reason why the freight forwarding industries in the UK and France cannot be expanded to cope with much of the business. You only need a bill of lading, EORI number, invoice and packing list. There will be a reasonable percentage of trade currently done by road which switches to containers. The eurocrats will want it to fail but the EU exporters will be applying pressure so they can continue selling their goods to the UK.

What part of there's no ICT system in place that'll deal with the level of volume are you struggling with mate?

The need to check vehicles for people trying to escape France will obviously continue. The additional paperwork does not need to be presented to customs in this way. For non EU business it is sent electronically before the goods arrive at the port, there is no reason why this cannot be applied to a lorry instead of an air or sea pallet or container shipment.
 
These technical problems are solvable with goodwill. The EU will need to decide how much it's spite and self harm is worth in lost trade to the UK.

Follow some goods as they leave Scotland and go through four or five distribution centres before arriving at their destination in Europe two days later. All on different lorries which are only sorted at the last minute to make up full loads. This is why there are so many huge distribution centres all around. You seem to be living in the past when a company would have their own lorries, but today it is far cheaper to use the specialists who operate carrying shipments from multiple companies.

These are only a part of the current level of business. Companies will adapt their logistics to the situation. There is a possibility of some extra delays for those who have not planned for any disruption. It is not in the EU's current political interest to allow a smooth system, they could but they will not, certainly not until the EU exporters start squealing.

This is way in the past, trading companies usually pay freight companies for a one way or return trip, where have you been the last 15 years?

If we waltz away from the talks and take the no deal option then it'll be all our own doing, and the complete mess that will ensue at our points of entry and exit will be of our making and not the EU's.

The EU's negotiating position is unacceptable especially the large bribe, no thanks.

If we walk away then it's the EU's problem/fault, nothing to do with us sending incompetent simpletons to negotiate a leaving deal.

All the EU exporters will suffer loads but the UK ones will be fine because we'll sign magical trade deals that will in no way damage our economy. I hear everyone in the UK wants to eat genetically modified food, chlorinated chicken and various other US delicacies. Our ever-so-competent government will instantly paper over all the cracks and we will barely notice the difference.

We'll be alright because we're BRITISH, we can wave Union Jacks and everyone will be queuing up to give us loads of money (but they're not allowed to stay too long though).

It all makes sense if you read the Express every day <ok>

You obviously cannot read your own writing. You said 'companies using their own lorries' Hiring a third party lorry is definitely not that. The majority of the cross channel haulage will still be full loads going from A to B.

Nah, just not keen on seeing the country shoot its own toes clean off, because of flag waving jingoism, some nostalgic 'days of the Empire' xenophobia, and good old fashioned racism.
