An excellent post General and I'm sure sums up the feelings of the vast majority of NCFC fans. I just wish that Martin was kept either in the background supporting our younger players, or at most on the bench. I guess Hanley may not be fit enough to start n Saturday, but I really hope that by the time we head up to Bramhall Lane, both he and Klose will be fully fit and so relegate Martin to the bench.
No the point of the defensive midfielders when you deploy a counter attacking game is to win the ball and get it forward quickly to the striker / attacking midfielders.
We aren't deploying a counter attacking game from what I've seen. We camp around their area with 70+ % possession, then concede. The opposition are the ones who seem to be playing a counter attacking game more often.
That's pretty close to the mark FML and let's hope that DF and his staff have been working with the players to evolve some different tactics. IMO, I'm hoping Tettey will be in the starting 11 on Saturday and this will be my last home game I'm attending before Hull. I'd also like to see Martin relegated to the bench (or even omitted from the squad!!!)
But i acknowledged he had a good game but was referring to last year when most of the time he didn't. Just because hes had one good game this season sgainst lesser opposition doesn't mean he's up to the job this season amd he's certainly not up to playing every week.
I agree that's why i stated I agreed that it is futile to boo the players, any of them. I think some one else remarked that you don't boo in the cinema if a film is rubbish, that would be silly even if you were of that booing mindset, no one but the projectionist is gonna hear you anyway. But increasingly I think you do get people leaving the ground/cinema going on social media to critique the performances. The question is how damaging is that? Booing or critisizing the players during a game has to be bad and detrimental to perfomance, Booing at the end less so, but does it have a knock on effect to the next game or 7? Could that effect be positive or negative? Depends on players and the teams mind set. But how many of the players actually get and read direct abuse on social media? God help any of them silly enough to listen to canary call! But how aware is Russ for example of how few people now seemingly back him as a 1st XI player? Bah!
I would Imagine that Rusty being an integral part of a team that has shipped hundreds of goals in 7 years and all his centre back partners being moved on . That the penny might have dropped and if it continues no matter how charismatic he is that his place would too be up for grabs. He must be on close to £100k a month and his leadership has not been sufficient to stop 8 goals going in. You don't boo at the cinema or theatre unless you are watching a pantomime and I would argue the poor ****ers that travelled to Millwall were watching exactly that. They were awful against a side that just came up from League 1 . I wouldn't boo Martin but I would certainly hope the management would address the situation by dropping the underperforming players. Didn't see much sympathy for the players that were released so I have none for Martin. Give him a coaching role and use him if we have an injury crisis .
But at least give him a chance then to prove you right or wrong. He can only play well in a game his played in. Tactics, performances and style was awful last season, I think everyone had to start a fresh this season. A lot of players who have played this season haven't proven last season a blip yet. Tetty hasn't had a league game to prove anything. Can't be much worse than what we've seen. I think we would have a stronger core of Reed and Terry played together. Reed can run about tracking down like a terrier. Maybe pushing on a bit more at times. Tetty can sit, break up play and give it to a team mate. Just my opinion.
I agree with giving Tetty a run out, we look like we need more fight in the middle, but I'm not sure, maybe not for home games. Tetty can just about pass sideways infront of the opposition so could fit the system quite well. He is however at risk of becoming that mystical phenomenom of the ever improving player whilst on the side lines. We all kind of hoped that with his momentum killing lack of passing ability, he would be nothing more than a bit part squad player. Maybe Farke can see this in training every day? I guess it comes down to trusting the managers judgement, trusting him to pick the best combination of players for a given game and for the tactics he wishes to employ. Right now the kindest thing I can say for Farke is that he is experimenting and hopefully learning this. But it's not clear, some of his selections shake my faith in him and his judgment. He needs time, but should he ever have picked that side vs Millwall? i think every onlooker could see it looked horribly wrong and had more than a hint of disaster about it. Bah!
No for me Tettey is the past and needs to move on. He's not up to the rigors of the championship, picks up too many injuries and cards and spent most of his playing time last season demonstrating why he isn't good enough for this level. I'm sure we would have moved him on if we could have got a decent offer during the summer. He would need to do much more than one half decent performance against a league 1 side to break back into the starting 11 for me. I really think some fans and posters on here need to get realistic. Just because a player that doesn't feature in the starting 11 has a good game for the U23 or against a lower league side in the cup doesn't mean they're up to a Championship league game.
Thompson is out with injuries most of the time and Godfrey's out on loan. Who are our ball winning midfielders?
But has our midfield been up to the rigors of the championship without him? Arguably not. I actually think that Tettey would probably still be effective in his disruptive capacity. But he like the rest of the team is only going to be as strong as the team around him. I still can't see a collective defensive effort from 1-11 when we haven't got the ball, so like our much maligned defenders it is difficult for any player to have enough fingers for the dyke. Bah!
