I think they're both good points. I'm not of the opinion that Southgate is brilliant or that everything is perfect.

I do think though at some point you have to stop blaming managers. And we did win 4-0. With Southgate I think he's on a hiding to nothing even more than his predecessors because he was an uninspiring appointment in the first place. A bit like McClaren I guess.

Yes I agree and I used to defend England years ago.
But it's just the same year after year and it's never gonna change.
It really does bore the life out of me.

I'm not sure what people mean by "it's the same every year". How much different can it realistically get? Obviously the one change we want is a successful tournament. But in between tournaments, we have to accept that in qualifiers all we can do is beat these **** sides. If we fail to beat them then yes there's a problem. I'm concerned that our FIFA ranking is likely to out is in pot 2 for the finals draw, assuming we get there, but not at all concerned that we were boring against Malta. It was never going to be an open attacking game. It's always a bit of a boring attack v defence job when playing these sides (not just for England) but we did the job and won 4-0 in the end.

It seems like people are just waiting to be disappointed with England. You read through the threads on here and people display great pride in not taking an interest. Each to their own but why be so loud and proud about not caring? It's the same as Castro and friends talking about FC.

You still have that youthful enthusiasm for England I understand.
Apart from the Gascoigne era when it looked like things might change there really hasn't been any signs of getting anywhere.
To have only ever made one final in history is really embarrassing

I don't disagree with that. It frustrates the hell out of me when we **** up tournaments. It's ridiculous that we've consistently had a competitive side which can beat anyone in the world, but also consistently found ways to not do so when it matters.

I just think we need to cut them some slack and support them in getting a better result at the next tournament. What else can we do? Wallowing in self pity and defecting to support our historic rivals is proper soft.

The passion isn't there mate is it.
In 30 years time you will be shaking your head like us older ones are.
I've said it before we constantly lack the slick movement through the middle that's needed to take teams apart.

you won all your quali matches under woy
it doesn't ****ing matter these **** games

if you want to challenge at a tournament

you get rid of hart
you get rid of cahill
you get rid of walker
you get rid of oxlade chamberlain
you get rid of sterling
you get rid of livermore
you get rid of jones

you keep bertrand
you keep kane
you keep ali
you keep henderson

you put maguire in
you put keane in
you put trippier in
you put vardy in
you put pickford in
you put barkley in
you put dier in

I never think it is a bad thing with a national side to try and use a clubs nucleus of players as it's backbone. Like you mention to having Kane, Ali, Dier & Tripier/Walker (Now Man City) plus Rose when fit wouldn't be a bad start to build a team around.

i don't really care but i honestly believe my starting 11 would solve many of englands problems

walker and chamberlain are utter ****s, **** over rated egotistical players, shouldn't be even near the england team, as for sterling.. he is usain bolt who accidentally kicks a ball

hart is probably the most over rated goal keeper in history.
cahill only plays for england because he plays for chelsea, he is one of the most over rated defenders in football history, he is ****
jones, is just bang average

bertrand and trippier are vastly under rated

People still try and raise the club vs country debate. What debate? There's never been one.

I see in the Sunday papers that Southgate is trying to defend the indefensible with regards Sterling's dog **** performance. I wouldn't expect him say how crap he was but he would have been better not saying anything.

You might not be interested in watching England, but the viewing figures remain massive, even a **** game against Malta draws big numbers and what the competitions actually start, 40% of the population will be watching.
