Mason is an adult but if I were his parent I would be saying to him "hang up the boots son." Shankly's quote is memorable but the reality is...no, football isn't more important.

Most sensibly run teams will take out insurance against something like this happening, now we're far from being a sensible team so it could be a moot point, but even if we do, I wonder where any pay out will be going??

I doubt it. Think of the cost it would be to insure every player. Probably more per season than it would be to write off a £15m player.

It was obviously scattered and piecemeal, but overall, I liked what I saw last season.

If he can get fit and stay fit, I feel that he could be a big player in this division.

I like him but I think he'll slip away last day of the window

If he was fit, I would agree.

But as he isn't (and hasn't played consistently for a while) I don't think anyone will offer to take on his contract.

I hope he stays and contributes. If not, then maybe he'll be off in Jan.

I'm sure players have personal injury insurance of some description, nit sure about the club however. We've been bitten twice now, Bullard, and Mason. But as someone said Mason has his life and child to consider, the fact he has actually made attempts to be in a position to play speaks volumes..

Yes they do as I used to sell it to pros all over the country

Ryan Mason has no intention of giving up on a return to playing, following his scan on Friday.

The bone has started growing back together, it may require more surgery, but he's hopeful of making a return to the game.

It doesn't sound like it will be a quick process.

Credit to the lad .. most would have hung their boots up tbh .. but I can't help feeling we'll never see him don a city shirt again .. life is more precious no matter how much I love the club would hate to see him make a return and put his life at risk

He's still getting £30/40k a week, he's not going to put the brakes on that til he reaches the end of the road, even if it's already in sight.

As if we wouldn't get some defensive injury sometime, people here just predicted Dawson instead. I suppose we just stick one of those many midfielders we've got into defence now then eh?
