Swansea came for the draw and defended well. We had some good interplay, and pressed well particularly in the first half but it stagnated second half and we became too predictable and slow as it became more of a training exercise of attack vs defence. It's almost impressive how bad our shooting is. A positive first game of the season despite the 2 lost points.
Enjoyed that. Shame not to get a goal or 2, Swans turned up for a point and defended very deep. Ref made some really strange decisions, the yellow for Romeu was bang out of order, fair challenge, won the ball, did not lead with the elbow, just wanted the ball more. Once things start going our way in front of goal I can see JWP getting into double figures this season, Yoshi unlucky twice as well
A typical early season game for me, lots of promising signs and I would much rather draw 0-0 and create a bucket load of chances than hardly create anything. Fans have got to be patient, you can't expect a new manager working with a different squad to be perfect overnight at least give the guy 10-15 games to stamp his authority and style on the team. Swansea under Clement are a decent team and will be comfortably mid-table so to create so much against them this early is good and they defended very well too.
Fear for the swans. Hope they get some dosh in quick to buy a couple players or they are in for a long slog of a season.
Absolutely. Ideally, we need someone who contributes in multiple phases, who can make passes from midfield, but can make runs from deeper positions and get in behind to open space for our striker. And who, when chances fall to them, can finish (some of) them. We need a Mane, basically.
MLsfc, why did you bother responding to my post, if you are going to tell me my response? Serious question. Simply no point in me engaging in this conversation as you have a preconceived opinion, so I'll leave it. I said back in June when I joked about what will happen over the summer and it's happening. Perhaps it wasn't a joke. Have a good evening
Indeed. It follows my point about this transfer and last. We failed to replace Mane last summer, and we have so far failed to again. Sigurdsson will win you more points than Virgil will.
I think it's pitiful the way some people react. It'll upset some people, but hey that's life. I genuinely find some reactions a little sad. My opinion. I just seem to understand who and what we are. I hope that we do really well, but I don't expect or demand it. I've always said that.
Possibly, but I've only ever really seen him playing as a striker...scoring nous up top isn't our problem, it's the fact that we only have one such player deployed at any given time. Regarding Mane, I don't think anyone thinks it's simple to find a player as good as he. But we ought to be bringing in someone with similar qualities, at the very least. If we keep using the same personnel grouping, more often than not we're going to get the same result.
