That's what some said after Luis kicked off in 2013 after the £40m + 1 malarkey. Went on to give us his best ever season.

Tell Coutinho not gonna happen until next summer, he's left it too late for us to find a suitable replacement. Barca can come back next summer after he's had a blistering WC having helped us retain CL football and hopefully bagged a trophy or two meaning we'll be in a better position to attract a replacement of suitable quality.

Plus we'll look even more clueless if we sell him having spent 2 months saying he's not for sale <doh>

If Coutinho and Can leave, we start the season with Wiji, Henderson and Grujic being the only match fit midfielders.

Can won't leave. he's playing the long game. Klopp is a typical german manager who is used to that and has no issue playing him.

It will be the same with coutinho should he stay. there will be not victimisation.

YOu are right though... our midfield has imploded with injury.

I don't see how the club have many other options; If they sell him, we won't get a proper replacement - if at all - at a reasonable fee (relative term) and the owners will once more look like they haven't got a clue about running a club. If they don't sell him, we have one unhappy player who still has to play else he won't 'earn' his move and won't get his spot in the Brazil squad.

Not a fan of Klopp's apparent one target per position philosophy.

Anyway, Coutinho hasn't posted a leaving thread, complete with sad music and stuff, so I'm calling bullshit on the whole thing.

Don't think it was a mistake at all, but you're right that it has been a catalyst. Coutinho has obviously been believing that no matter what Klopp was saying, they were negotiating behind the scenes, just like the Barca press were saying. FSG were right to back up Jurgen, but this, and with the nonsensical presentation today not happening in Barca like Coutinho's team had obviously been expecting, either Barca, his agent or his dad (or all three) have seen that they have to respond.

Doesn't change anything at all though - FSG are now in a corner unless Klopp decides otherwise. So what if he goes on strike or feigns injury from now until 1st of September? The money for the VVD and Keyta sales was already there, and if they're not coming and we need to make some sales we can use that. As I said yesterday when some were goading that he'd put in a TR request, ultimately it makes no difference (except that if we do sell now, we don't have to pay a bonus). He said he wanted to go anyway before this. Only thing we should do now is set that price, but make it ****ing ridiculous, say £150m now. They won't pay that, and thus Phil, they really DON'T want you that much.

Sell him to PSG for £60m in January when we're out of the CL - if we make it past the qualifier now.

The only thing I've got against him is the method he used to put in the TR, otherwise it's no more than I had been calling for VVD to do all month, and what I decried Lil' Rim for not doing. It's Barca, I understand completely, but he doesn't understand that we simply don't have to sell, and if we do sell we have every right to extract every bit of that £200m we can get: otherwise, every time Barca want a player and aren't prepared to pay the price we demand they'll simply do all this again.
