I for one never believed we had the cash in hand for both VVD & Keita at the reported prices .In fact unless we sold Sakho ,Markovich et al for serious dosh i'e at least £40m for those 2 alone doubt we would have bought both .
Our net spend so far is circa £33m

Don't think it was a mistake at all, but you're right that it has been a catalyst. Coutinho has obviously been believing that no matter what Klopp was saying, they were negotiating behind the scenes, just like the Barca press were saying. FSG were right to back up Jurgen, but this, and with the nonsensical presentation today not happening in Barca like Coutinho's team had obviously been expecting, either Barca, his agent or his dad (or all three) have seen that they have to respond.

Doesn't change anything at all though - FSG are now in a corner unless Klopp decides otherwise. So what if he goes on strike or feigns injury from now until 1st of September? The money for the VVD and Keyta sales was already there, and if they're not coming and we need to make some sales we can use that. As I said yesterday when some were goading that he'd put in a TR request, ultimately it makes no difference (except that if we do sell now, we don't have to pay a bonus). He said he wanted to go anyway before this. Only thing we should do now is set that price, but make it ****ing ridiculous, say £150m now. They won't pay that, and thus Phil, they really DON'T want you that much.

Sell him to PSG for £60m in January when we're out of the CL - if we make it past the qualifier now.

My feeling on calling it's mistake is the club should know the actors involved and should have been very very confident of the players reaction. They have at best ignored the player, at worst they got lied to and believed it.

Imo the real issue here is purely cash.

We didn't do our business well thus far and don't seem to have a target so wedding need the cash.

The thing I now expect is they will accelerate on the Enfield road end and try placate fans on that front.

But who benefits from that?
Not Coutinho and certainly not Liverpool.....
Just sell the little ****, fleece Barca for as much as you can, and sign Mahrez for half the money you get from Barca, that way you are rid of an ungrateful **** who doesn't want to play for you, you have signed a decent replacement, and you are still quids in.

Keeping him against his will helps no one.
Yeah sure, it spites Coutinho and Barca, but the Liverpool board need to be thinking about whats best for Liverpool, not spiting other clubs.

Why? Unless we get £135m for him and hurt Barca, they;ll just keep doing it again, as they did with Masch and Luis. Now we don't HAVE to sell to anyone anymore. We acn afford to let him act the goat - it's WC year, he'll soon come around. If he feigns injury he can't play international either. No different to Luis in 2013 in the end.

Oh, but the Echo said it was £200m net (though Astro (rightly) said it's probably £100m).

The thing I now expect is they will accelerate on the I hope they do develop the Anny Rd, and have £60m left over..

You've hit it on the head. Your best bet is keeping him otherwise you go into the new season at a massive disadvantage with one of your best players gone. The same with Sanchez, we're better keeping him than selling him and WC year will make these players perform for selfish reasons.

But one big difference is that Ford has four and a half years left on his contract. As I said though, we went through all of this with Suarez in 2013, and he even called in the PFA to try and get a move - he wasn't sold and he then went on to give us his best season ever.

its down to the player themsevles imo.

I am not sure what coutinho will do.. i think he would be embaressed to be seen in LFC colours having handed in the request. Suarez was a total ****. Costa has been a dick constantly and acted like nothing happened then and played. Sanchez for me is a workaholic who will play and work like a dog if he doesn't get his move.

VVD.. who knows.. i don't know him well enough to say what he's going to do. Keita in germany is back doing sponsor merchandising for leipzig...

some guys think this is all just business and normal....

I will be interested IF he stays to see the first game in front of the kop...

5 full years :)

its depends on the person.

Yeah it is a tricky one for him as the Liverpool faithful are a passionate bunch. It really is tough when your star player wants to move on the eve of the new season.

I dunno about you but this is more worrying

"locked and loaded"

he doesn't seem worried that ordinary artillary is in range of the wives and family of several thousand us service persons in south korea.... he says they are completely ready which of course is a lie.

You think coutinho going or not is REALLY all that lads :)

Its nothing personal... we are all big boys.

He shouldn't expect a big cheer when his name is read out on the team sheet like.. but get on with it or get on with the move... its all really down to barca offering a deal thats not acceptable and offering it late in the window reacting to neymar going.....
