I understand that major injury layoffs can make you think about the fragility of your career, and I understand him freaking out in a mini meltdown in the frustration of being helplessly out of action. I imagine this kind of thing happens more often than we hear about.

My main issue with the guy is not confiding in his self-professed "father figure", Pochettino, with this stuff and trusting him to put him straight and calm him down instead of throwing his toys and his ****ty nappy out of the pram so publicly. It makes us look less attractive as a team to potential players and it makes the club look a little silly and him even sillier to rival fans. It also gives the media and rival managers the tools with which to further destabilize the squad.

Levy and Poch are businessmen who understand fully how the financials need to look in order to maintain the current trajectory that we are all enjoying, and as much as I don't like it, these magic deals always seem to happen at the end of the transfer window for us.

A few of us have said here about these ridiculous wages, about how we would love to earn this sort of money in our lifetime let alone in a year.I am worth more than I earn but I can't go to the press or the boss. If I did I would be shown the door. I am just disgusted.

I too am disgusted. No he is not the teams spokesperson, and in some ways I think he is calling for an uprising. Like I said, very snaky behaviour, especially when you are managed by your "father figure". Speak directly to the gaffer, get straightened out. End of story.

I guess I'd like to see us win something soon so that if it is in fact pure greed, as you suggest, there would be no hiding place behind a lack of a trophy for any player who kicks off.

I wonder what this would look like if we did actually win the league and the FA cup. Both without Rose through injury and with Walker on the sidelines watching Trippier perform in the cup. Would our two full backs have been be so agitated?

I guess we'll never know, because we didn't quite have the squad depth and quality to pull either over the line, and this is part of the problem.

One thing I will give Moaninho credit for is his commitment to winning things. We've managed to massively improve our desire to win games. I'm not yet feeling the same about our desire to ruthlessly win competitions.

Rose like Walker, Kane and Alli have progressed significantly under Pochettino. Not only have they become first team fixtures for Spurs, they've established themselves as first choice picks for England and have been recognised as the best in their positions in the PL by their peers. That latter point is significant. Any player with any ambition, who is at his peak, does want to win trophies and to be paid a salary commensurate with the other best players in the league.
Whilst I'm surprised he gave an interview like this and made his feelings public, he raises a point which is valid. Levy needs to address whatever wage structure is in place. How sustainable is it for players to keep performing at this level (the best results in the PL in the past two seasons cumulatively), but be paid as if they were still finishing in the EL places?

Sorry Luke it is not sustainable for Spurs to compete with Chelsea, City or United on wages. It's very easy to use the argument that we need to pay our top players the same as if they were playing at these bottomless pit clubs but if we did we would go broke so it's not realistic. The players will have to make that decision themselves if they help to take Spurs to a higher level that and the new stadium will produce greater revenue that will no doubt see them receive even more.

Excusing Rose by saying he has a point misses the point. He has spoken to the Sun rather than the people he works for. He has allowed that disgusting rag to use his words against Spurs and leave the potential to disrupt the whole squad. I don't care if he is right in what he says or not he is a very stupid little ****.

I have to agree. The timing of this is utterly disgraceful. We're 48 hours away from the new season and he drops a bombshell like this. I'm trying to see the positives in this but there's very few. It's sole aim is to cause disruption and unrest.

It's really sad as I thought he was Spurs through and through but frankly, I think he's toast now.

Spurs can't compete in every case, but it is important to pay the market rate to the top players to keep them happy - that's self evident.
Paying the top players the extra amount involved might increase the wage bill by £20M. It's not going to make the club insolvent.

I haven't sought to justify his means. I don't support what he's done. He risks burning his bridges with the players and staff at Spurs. That's selfish.
If he's after a move, he could have approached it better.

A market dominated by Real Madrid, City, PSG, and Chelsea. I exclude United, Barca , and Bayern because their wealth comes from their support. The market is distorted by the sugar daddies and then some more by TV talk of market rates is again not realistic.

If the ITK pixies are to be believed then Chelsea offered £62m plus £8m add-ons last Monday.

If I was Poch I would give Rose a season to prove his worth, put his money where his mouth is and if he still wants to leave then, sell him. If I remember correctly the last time Rose came back from substantial injury it took a fair amount of games to get his mojo back. If his ****e attitude continues into the start of this season then sideline him and teach the other players a lesson in HOW NOT to engineer a move away from the club.

The wage structure is not going to change anytime soon, so why not use this as an example to the others on how to behave in future. Most of them are tied into long term contracts and if they see Rose going through a hard slog to get out then it may deter others to follow him.

This is the point where it's worth mentioning the fact that German international and two-time Bundesliga winner Joshua Kimmich is paid €10,000 a week...
 
Ajax continually produce good players who are sold because they can't afford to compete on wages.
Spurs know about that as they have one.
If teams can't compete on wages, they have to resign themselves to selling their best players. It's the reality of professional football without a wages cap or similar.
Spurs may not have the resources of the wealthiest clubs, but are among the next group of rich clubs - top ten or thereabouts in the rich list.
Spurs can pay more in wages, but choose not to.
The wisdom of a wages structure is arguable, but it leaves the club vulnerable to having to sell players who demand higher wages.
Ajax have no choice but to keep on selling.

Personally, I don't blame Rose for being ambitious/greedy/whatever he is. He's no different to most people. Most of us whore ourselves out for money. How much would it cost me to start to waiver? Probably a lot, lot less than Danny Rose sold himself for.

However, selling everyone to do with the club down the river to The Sun is just awful. The whole interview shrieks.........

"Don't they know who I am?"

Yes, mate. You're a footballer whose wages are ultimately paid by the fans. Without us putting up with being massively overcharged with everything to do with the game, you'd be driving a cab or running a pub in 10 years time. As an enormously well paid professional, just a modicum of respect for what the game has given you, what your club of 11 years has given you, what we the fans have collectively given you, wouldn't go amiss, would it?

Is that too much to ask?

I was worried this would start to happen as soon as we signed Sissoko. Bringing in a bang-average reincarnation of Adebayor who had just suffered the humiliation of relegation but then inexplicably installing him as one of the club's top earners was too stupid to be called criminal.

When you look at the list of players earning less than him despite giving their heart and soul for the club for 2-3 seasons, it is hardly surprising that players like Rose and (rumour has it) Toby find themselves wondering why they aren't being paid at least equal to our French buffoon.

I'm not excusing the comments one iota, and have lost all respect for Rose.

All I'm saying is that the reprecussions of that cursed signing are probably still being felt now.

In the case of Ajax, and the upper tier Eredivisie as a whole, the issue they face is that they not only face losing their best players on an annual basis but also losing their best prospects before they've even been established. On the one hand you have players who only last two seasons in the Eredivisie before being snapped up such as Van Persie, Promes, Bazoer and Van Dijkhead, but on top of that there's the likes of Nathan Ake, Patrick van Aanholt, Jeffrey Bruma and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are obvious examples of this as they never even played in the Eredivisie...although Ake, van Aanholt and Bruma all had a very good chance of being loaned back there.
