Agreed...but under the circumstances I think we did well.

Their centre forward, a real old school type was a real handful.

The worry is we'll face more of the same in the coming weeks as that will be perceived as our weakness.
Millwall and Bolton play the big hoof,up to big guys up front, not that many others do that.

Pennington before he went off,was winning nearly everything, think they said he won the ball 13 times more than any other player on the pitch,we won nearly every ball in the box, which is where it counts and don't remember our keeper having to make a serious save.Checked the stats and write up just to be sure and the good old Beeb agrees with me.

Bolton, promoted from League One in May, were direct throughout but struggled to create anything clear-cut from open play
Thought Pennington was very classy and assured. Unfortunately he'll probably be out for at least a month if not more. The way he went over on his ankle usually leads to ligament damage which means a serious amount of recovery time.

Could just be a twisted ankle.

Agreed... Lots of positives but plenty to work on.

It's more the set pieces that worry me and all the teams send up the cavalry for those. I do take your point though and it will be interesting to see how we cope with teams who adopt a more cultured approach.

Guess we'll find out soon enough as Fulham at home coming up.

Once he limped off it was less secure agreed.
Lots of positives, but as we all said the defence is an area that could be an issue.
We have some presence, either the shirts give an optical illusion or we have some big units. Looked massively bulked up compared to Bolton.. This is good.

Defence is definitely the issue.

Also I have concerns about Phillips but his role must have changed from last season as he was in the box to score from Woods pass. That would have never happened under Monk so prepared to wait and see how he develops.

Think it might have anything to do with Millwall playing Bolton next? He must be bricking it - certainly won't want to slag them off in case they take the points at the Den on Saturday. <laugh><laugh>
Had a little 2 pint bet with him,who would score the most against them us or millwall.<cheers><cheers>

As an aside to the match.

In my opinion both Chippy and WJ are both great posters.

Their match reports and players assessments are always worth reading and even if I don't agree, I consider their opinions worthy of consideration.

But it's the way they bicker on here like two school girls that I really like...I do sometimes wonder which one is the biggest girls blouse with all their bluster.

You see the problem is WJ cares too much and Chippy would have you believe that he couldn't care less which makes for a fascinating meeting of the minds or should I say egos.
Travelled yesterday, flight delayed, got here early hours of this morning, tired family all now in bed. Logged on to absorb the feel good factor of the best start we could hope for and this is everywhere <doh> wtf has happened?? Two people I consider match day mates but really??

The good news is I had the chance to read the paper on the plane and saw an article about Europecar setting aside £40 million for compensation for conning people about false damage to cars. Got conned by those ****ers for £1k three years ago when I hadn't hit so much as a moth in the two weeks we were in Italy - getting on board that one and hope anyone else on here conned by the treacherous ****ers does the same.

Oh, and evening all :emoticon-0167-beer:

WJ, I always admire the way you defend your honour and integrity.

However the situation would seem to be similar to a boy poking a bear with a stick...now in real life the bear would eventually eat the boy once he became sufficiently irritated by the prodding.

As this is an online situation that recourse is not open to you, so you seek the impossible whilst allowing yourself to be continually prodded. Your satisfaction in this (and the same goes for anyone else who has an online war of words) should always come from within. If you consider your views to be fair and reasonable and you believe you have the respect of the majority of posters then you have always have the upper hand.

Trying to extract blood from stones is a lengthy and time consuming exercise but feel free to continue if it's the holy grail you seek.
Are you that wise bloke off Karate Kid?
