Mason was a failure too. Not his or anybody else's fault and of course nobody can legislate for that kind of injury, but it meant signing him for last season was a failure.
It's an interesting point - how often do teams get promoted to the Prem and not strengthen their first XI in any way over the summer? You could also argue we didn't strengthen in the winter under Marco, and ibstead all he signed was 'options' that we didn't previously have. Who did well? Turbo was largely poor, Markovic was massively hot and cold, N'Diaye was only ok, Evandro added little, the full-back was so insignificant I can't even remember his name... Niasse probably made the biggest impact and I wouldn't call him a success.
