WOW - if that's not a statement of intent then I don't know what is ????? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40550188
Slightly off topic does anyone know when the squad for the US tour will be announced. As this may give a clue to who may be in the squad for next season.
I'd love Everton to come back with £50M only to be told it's now £60M. It said we turned down a £40M offer from Leicester. No offence to Leicester, but why would he want to move there ??? They've had their 15 minutes.
I know the money is stupid, but on some levels it evens the playing field. The fact we are in a position to turn down £40M shows we're not desperate for the money. It's making it much more difficult for the elite wealthy clubs to buy whoever they want, as the TV money now means we can say "nuh - we want more than that" without worrying that they'll walk away. If they walk away - great, we keep our star player. If a club want's to pay 2,3 or 4 times a players value then that's up to them. I still maintain that Gylfi is worth more than £50M to us, but also see that he's probably not worth that to other clubs. Thanks to his performances last season, we get another £100M nose-bag next season. There's not really a realistic price where I'd be happy to sell him. If he eventually goes for £60M, then we'd have to pay inflated prices for a replacement as clubs know we are sitting on a pile of cash. Remember Liverpool were made to pay £35M for Andy Carroll just because they'd sold Torres for £50M.
Now that is very good news, sends a message to Everton and Spurs and any other club that may think we're just a feeder club. Glad to see we're up for the fight.
60 million for Siggy and Mawson is a SOLD in my books . But that's me , frees up some money for Clement to spend on HIS transfer needs . If we get 40 million for Siggy , it's like saying we got 40 million for Davies . Some good business there
One comment about Torres and Carroll Torres went in the January I believe leaving Liverpool without a striker hence the rushed overpriced purchase of Carroll. If we sold Siggy for 50 million if spent properly could purchase 3 replacements of decent quality that's my only concern if
Gylfi worth £50m ? Not on your life. But we must get the most we can, £30m is more than enough and i would not pay that for a player who has failed in a top club before. He looks good with us because he is the best we have and does not take much to shine but if he joins a club with better players then he would be a bench player after a few games....We need to keep him but Gylfi will have a lot to say if we scupper his £130,000+ a week wage offer.... This is not the end of this saga by a long way i feel...
Too us as a team he is worth £100m but to anyone else as much as they are prepared to pay.....Unless we up his wages to £120,000 a week then i can see him playing up and slapping in a transfer request. We might as well take what we can get for him then as a player that dont want to be here is worthless...
So an extra 50,000 a week that equates to 2.5m a year. surely we would lose more than that if we get relegated. I am just wondering whether it may be worth the investment.
Yes but what happens when the bubble bursts , we are spending 80% of our income on wages alone .A Club of our size cannot keep being reliant on the TV money to pay wages , our commercial income is poor and a few more payouts due to poor decision making then we could see those figures increases with an imbalance on what the income streams we have then I can see a massive collapse in the future .
I wasn't saying I would do it, just thinking out loud. But we have to look at parachute payments and if relegated he would be sold anyway so wouldn't have his wages.
I'm not even looking at relegation more of the case should we stay up for a couple more years, what then will our pay structure look if we continue to dish out extended contracts and pay out improved contracts to keep our "stars" .We have yet got the balance right on income and outgoings something I hope the yanks will address with their commercial acumen and not continue leaving it to someone who is clearly out of his depth.
Well my point was more about how we will be expected to pay more if we pocket £50M from the sale of Gylfi. You didn't offend me, apologies is my response came across a bit arsey.
£80m for Gylfi, Mawson and Llorente would allow us to seriously strengthen the team in defence and attack. Of course, it depends on Clement getting the full £80m to spend. Imaging how strong the team could be with 4-5 real quality signings. It would also give us serious depth as 4-5 starters from last year would end up on the bench.
