I'm not involved, I have no idea what the practical options are, I'm just saying your assertion that there's loads of empty properties lying around in Kensington, just doing nothing, is bollocks.

And the reason I've made an issue of it, is because I'm sick of seeing bollocks like this on Twitter about foreign millionaires who are apparently buying up thousands of luxury flats that they just leave empty. Think about it, it's quite obviously nonsense.

Why are you under the impression that nothing is being done to help these poor families?

    Who mentioned Kensington ? I certainly didn't. Who mentioned luxury ? I certainly didn't.

The people involved don't want to leave the area and have all been assured they can stay in the borough of Kensington and I don't know how well you know Kensington, but any properties being developed there at the moment (the only properties that are currently going to be empty) are going to be luxury properties.

Nobody here cynical enough to see this as a desperate attempt by a failing political regime to extract some kudos from a position of utter incompetence of their own stupid making?

'Course I'm not going to suggest that because I respect the no politics rule.

So it's obviously a nice, altruistic thing to do.

The people who experienced that horror deserve a break. Never look a gift horse in the mouth. Good luck to them.

It was going to be social housing anyway. I think these families deserve a break.

It looks like the cladding people could be in bother.

Tests on panels on a similar tower block to Grenfell Tower, that had the same works done by the same contractor (in Camden), have found the panels were not the ones specified in the schedule of works and did not meet the fire safety standards specified.

The panels will now be removed:

Where's the architect, the council officials checking the works, signing the works off etc. any contractor would be submitting the receipts of the panels ordered.
    Very fishy

    Criminal.

The Daily Mail (national) ran this last week, but I simply could not believe it.

    The money saved £6500

How many times do things get overlooked for many reasons because it will be ok until one day it isn't then disasters happen. Probably hundreds of times..its like roulette playing a game of chance.

In the case of the Camden ones, there was no money saving, as they'd specified and paid for the better panels.

It's yet to be seen if the same thing happened at Grenfell Tower.

I saw that but find it hard to believe on a multi million pound job they would use inferior materials just to save £6500.

The total job was £8.6m, they obviously wouldn't have knowingly risked using dangerous cladding just to save £6.5k.

Fire-safe panels WERE initially chosen to make Grenfell Tower more attractive - but contractors opted for a cheaper plastic version to save just £6,250. ... Millionaire builders saved a meagre £6,250 by fitting flammable cladding to Grenfell Tower instead of fireproof panels.
