Why not? I really don't subscribe to this attitude that you have to support your local team. I do, and I'm very proud to do so, but I generally think that as long as you make as much of an effort as possible to act in your chosen club's best interests, you're as valid a supporter as any other person. Whether you're a Hull White or a Leeds tiger. If the first team you see on the telly is Arsenal and you live in Goole, so what? You've most likely fallen in love with that team. Don't let some dullard persuade you that your convictions are wrong just because of a geographical accident of birth.

Maybe I'm talking ****e, but that's my view. Football transcends borders.

You would if you'd lost a generation of fans.

If all the football fans in Leeds supported the Whites, we'd have one of the biggest attendances in Europe. I don't lose any sleep over it.

Proper football fans know that football IS parochial.

With a few notable exceptions, only someone lacking something in their life and personality 'chooses' a football team they've no connection with* based on perceived success and vicarious glory.

TWS need to argue otherwise as they have a lower percentage of fans in Leeds than Man Utd have in Manchester. It's just empty vessels, "we are leeds" my arse. "We are 'ull's" sung with much more pride and meaning.

*Seems to be the bit people get confused about.

yesterday I got the message above when I clicked the link, but it now seems to be working for me.

Having seen it, it's an even more ridiculous and desperate attempt at proof. If you look at the peaks, most of the hits are more likely to be from non-leeds searches. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I know a Hull City fan born and bred in Leeds, do I begrudge him supporting them? No.

People support who they support. We all rip the piss out of perceived glory hunters but that’s only to wind the buggers up.

Jesus, its football at the end of the day. I love football and I love my city and my club but who you support doesn’t define you although I do get Golaccios point in a way because hes obviously narked about certain sections of our fans. Fair enough.

A Man U fan from Bury is marrying into my family (to my sister – oh the shame ;) ) and hes one of the nicest blokes I’ve met although their child IS going to be a Leeds fan, born here, gonna be one.

And those latching onto attendances, give it up. Most don’t give a ****, I know I don’t’ I support my club because they are my club. Simple. I don’t care about attendances. I was told to support a team by my mum and dad and I did. It just happened to be Leeds cos I was born and bred here as were many previous generations of my family.

So good luck tonight to Hull but not too much. I don’t actually want you to go down, why would I? I couldn’t give a **** if you were relegated, promoted or static. I don’t get the narrow minded, bitter little creeps though. We aren’t all a set of ****s but some fans decide to treat us all like that.

You know, the vast majority of so-called glory supporters are just kids who are watching football on the telly and choose whichever team they like the look of most. Or who support the team their dad brought them up to support, which might be the team he picked as a kid. So of course the more successful teams who are televized/publicized more are going to be the ones more frequently selected. There are probably kids all over the country who watched Hull beat Arsenal at the Emirates and suddenly decided they liked that team wearing the rather fetching black and amber. Then they realize they're from Hull... ;)

Seriously though, I have nothing to 'gain' from arguing in favour of out of town supporters; like I say if Leeds was just supported by all the football fans in Leeds, I reckon we could extend the stadium to 60,000 and fill it every week with the right pricing and ownership. I wish everyone in Leeds did support United, but I'm not going to go all sanctimonious about them choosing a different team just because that's the one that feels right for them. Parochialism is the mentality of a small club, desperate to get more fans before they all seep away to the looming giants.

I think we've just about exhausted that topic anyway.

Shall we go back to slagging off each others players? :bandit:

I'm afraid we haven't got anyone poor enough to trade for Paynter, how about Adebola for Becchio and I'll throw in a portion of pattie and chips and a can of Dandelion and Burdock? (with scraps if it helps)

Not a fan of fizzy liquid Germolene then?

How about a Bitter Shandy? (to be fair, the pattie should have swung the deal on it's own)

Alright then, you've swung it. We'll chuck Grella in too if you give us your chairman.
