yeah.... you are prob right. like phil bardsley was at utd but was **** but made a career for himself up and down the league.

I would say yeah both were decent.

We must ask... would dennis irwin (utds best LB of prem era) make it today playing lb with right foot? a bit of an azpi player there...

I would say the same to you seeing liverpool don't see to be producing any youth players. However i don't think i can throw that accusation around as your first team Brighton probably has a few prospects :emoticon-0105-wink:

I think i've explained the catastrophic desivion making in the late 90s that lead to LFCs current state now.

Our academy project that was parry's vanity project was such a terrible move that only now by spending 50mil and moving the first team there will fix it.

Parry and moores ruined LFC.

Not quite true given you actually listed a load earlier.

Spearing, Flanno, Rossiter, TAA, Woodburn, all local lads playing football at a decent enough level. That's not including players that we snapped up young from elsewhere like Sterling, ibe, Smith, Sinclair.

Our problem has has been producing quality to keep in our first team, Taa and woodburn look like they might make it but still early days. We've still produced talent to sell which is one of main roles in the academy.

TAA and Woodburn are just starting out. If you are going to start listing ex players, even our old ex chelsea players are doing roughly the same (the ones we bought and not the mega bucks ones like lukaku). The morais, di santo, bertrands, sinclairs etc. Hell even this year our youth players have had more opportunities than yours (chalobah, aina, loftus cheek).

Fact if the matter is, none of our academies/youth teams are up to to much. Whether thats to do with coaching, first team opportunities or finding the right talent i don't know but Liverpool are only better because of 1 player (sterling) in recent times which sums up how bad youth prospects in our 2 clubs
 
This is the problem in England - youngsters don't get the opportunity.

There was a stat On how many top level minutes English u23 players have played compared to German and Spanish players, and there is a massive gulf.

This is why our young players don't develop the way we expect.

That's modern footy for you, there's too much emphasis on the first team delivering straight away that managers don't have the time to fully devlop young players. If one comes along who's simply good enough then great but other than that you're devloping players for other lower clubs and making some money on the back of that.

TAA looks like he is good enough to be at least cover at RB so great, it's down to him to continue to develop and push Clyne out if he cannot do that then we will buy a RB when Clyne is done.

Woodburn it's simply too early, he does look very good though.

In recent times the only player who we've produced that I think could be a player for us is Suso, we shouldn't have sold him.

Thing with Suso is that he was competing with Coutinho and we weren't In Europe. No game time.

The annoying thing is letting him go for free.
 
As i said our academ taking our youths away form the first team was a monumental error and when you look and see it opened in 1998 just after gerrard's debut? what player came after that...... hmmmm..

BEfore it mcmanaman. the bought redknappy, folwer, owen gerrard carragher.... hmmmm yeah... david thompson and a couple others who didn't quite make it.

the acaemy is like a different club with little hardening of any kid

nobody was let go, he made his own decision. The incompetance is letting him out on laon before signing a deal so he attracted attention.

In the end.... he couldn't find a proper role here as peoepl kept trying to make him a RW in a 4231 and thats no good to him.

very odd but suggests the club is looking for an alternative to manninger who is ancient but its not ward at huddersfield. The word form there is he's not really a reliable keeper.

Cant see that happening. Looks a meh number 2, but we've already got 2 keepers that aren't nailed on number ones.

If going for new keeper then should be an established one that is a definite number 1.
 
The problem these days with bringing young players through is patience. No PL team seems willing to give them enough of a chance preferring a ready-to-go non-English [usually] player instead. How do you produce the next Gerrard, Owen, Fowler without giving them a good go in the first team. As said TAA and Woodburn look the most promising atm but our youth teams are packed with talent.

It's not just the clubs who aren't patient - the fans as well. You only have to look at the heavy criticism on players like Karius Can and Origi (u23).

I'm not sure what i stand on the youth vs opportunity argument.

Sure, youth players look talented and years gone by, there were far more youth players being 'developed' or for a better word getting game time. How much of it is to do with getting game experience and playing at a higher level to actually having the correct talent and having the right work ethic?

Back in the 80s/90s and to a certain extent the 00s, there were more youth prospects at the higher clubs but nowadays the game is far more global and there is a lot more talent that can just be recruited and the PL clubs have the necessary spending money. If a player is talented enough, they will get game time and progress to the next level even if they haven't played for their first team.

See Suso, KDB, Sterling etc.

The ones that fall behind are the ones that stay and don't get played like Bertrand.

When you see the likes of Theo, Gibbs, Ramsay, Wilshire (maybe a bit harsh as there all injury prone?) and for all their 'Talents', none of them are more than top 4 squad players and haven't really developed into these superstars that the teams challenging for the top really want. Same for all the talents i have listed before. Is that because they don't get the time to play with "world class" talent or because actually, they just aren't good enough to play at the top?

I think game time is only a small factor as players can still go on loan and i don't necessarily think playing in a bad team is that much of a hindrance. The other thing is do players naturally get better with age as they mature and aren't as rash and hot headed and have bodies developed properly. I certainly think it plays a part

that is true of course... but 2 of them are 10mil players also.

in the end guys with 50-100 games under their belt and experience are rated differently than a kid who hasn't a clue... and they are trusted more by managers


I think we all need to realise managers work by the you are only ever 3 games from a crisis rule.

they need to trust the 11 sent out... it takes a brave manager to pick kids and get them the experience.

IMO the real issue is lack of b teams where experience can be really gotten
