It's words like these that make me not have to worry. First there was Pacheco, then their was suso, then little raheem (tbf he has sort of made it although isn't WC), then Flanno, then Ibe, Wisdom, Gomez, Sinclair, Ojo all these great youngsters you have that haven't really made an impact.

    b) I'm just winding jimmy up.

Haven't seen much footie recently and certainly when TAA has been playing. Maybe a few highlights but he looks big and physical... then again so was Ibe when he broke onto the scene.

I know you were sort of half joking half on the wind up but you have had too many next best things for me to take seriously.

Whens the last time someone from your youth team has stepped up and been a really classy player. Sterling really and although i named a few too many in the last batch, for most of them most people from this board talked them up to be a potentially great player (standard talk after 2 or 3 appearances where they have played well).

That's why i'm not expecting anything

    me next best tings... never....

theres always another player you see :O

seriously but... our youth team is gash. the reality is we have done a piss poor job of actually making real talent locally. I could not even claim sterling nor ibe nor sinclair nor wisdom who are all to a man bought in from lower league clubs. The fact is all of them will at least be pro players which is more than can be said for any locals.

Jordan rossiter ****ed off north tho rangers... which iwas idiocy on his part. Conor coady went to shff utd and found his level in championship/league one.

The fact is TAA and woodrun are the only "locals" who are even close.

We took stewart on a free from spurs.. he's league one and took ejaria from arsenal.. and he's not prem player either.

pacheco stopped bothering his hole. ayala went to hull and plays some good level for himself. insua found his level too... suso is starring for ac milan now. all bought in too.

gomez is completely one footed but got a cruciate injury and was decent enough... he's nowhere close to fit imo

    The facts are on TAA:

    1. He's 18.
    2. he plays england u19
    3. he's made a debut.
    4. he's been at liverpool since age 8.

Thats about it until he shows he can develop properly but knowing what to look for as I do :) he's got the raw talent cos he's not got the fear to inhibit him but... he's got the work to do.. same as any other 18 year old.

But i'll forgive you co no Chelsea fan can remember what young developmental players look like :)

As i said sticking a foreign RB in on top of him and clyne would be pretty stupid of LFC when the fund available are needed elsewhere.

TAA, Flanno and Clyne are plenty for RB. Don't see the latter getting much game time next season though. The former may get the odd CM appearance

Flanagan had all the effort but none of the talent.
TAA we will have to wait and see, he looks promising and actually has a final product going forward

Best way around that. You can be taught skill, not mentality!

So you would not be happy if Klopp backed down?

I agree somewhat, but he looks a bit thick and can't be taught. Like Moreno, athletically brilliant, but he is clearly dumb as sh!t.

    true

no chance. you can teach tactics you cannot put latent talent into someone with little of it

IMo experience and teaching can bring awareness if a mind is open to it.

Like carragher. he wasn't bad on the ball par se and he could do a bit but he learned quickly what to do to maximise his ability and had the game awareness.

Moreno shows no ability to learn that as he doesn't have the awareness of it.

WIth respect to flanagan... little talent there but not enough IMO to be a pro footballer really and its actually anomalous that he's even still at our club or on loan anywhere.

Hard to take a Chelsea fan talking about youth players seriously to be fair <whistle>

A youth player to you guys is someone you buy for £20m at age 20 and don't see again for another 5 years when they're playing for someone else :bandit:

He can tackle, pass and run. Just teach him the tactical side and how to use his abilities to best practice; aka like Carragher!

lfc's record with youth imploded right after houllier joined.

i think our building in kirkb was finihsed in 1998 and it was a monumental error

first... gerrard and owen were so well known that they were coming through no matter what form the OLD system

second managers including houllier could not trust a kid handed to them for a day or two a week max to play cos they barely saw them.. especially if pressure is one.

third same players were insulated form first team and never saw the standard needed and were not ushed enough at kirkby.

I have zero doubts 4/5 real players slipped through our fingers over the 00s. no doubt at all.

did you know we put joe corrigan in charge of reserves in the early 00s.

IMO the system broke down when it moved there and the scouting and local recruitment really broke down after it where players actively went to everton not us.

We also have the sunful attitude that the tv station and website make stars out of kids playing really low level developmental football and build them up far too much. it all goes to their heads.

For the record, I don't actually think Flanno will ever return. I do think he would have been good enough for the PL ten years ago but the game as changed so much for FBs. They need to be very good at both ends nowadays.

My favourite two FBs are Rob Jones and Steve Finnan but I don't think either of them would survive in the modem game.

Arbeloa was my favourite. Very intelligent defender who could support the attack.

Loved Arbeloa but idolised Rob Jones growing up (along with Robbie of course) and Finnan was what I consider the perfect FB; Mr Reliable, could defend and attack.

The injuries basically ended Flannos Liverpool career. He was never 1st choice and the club moved on as it needed to in order to cover for Clyne. TAA has arrived at just the right time and Flanno hasn't done much in his recovery season for Burnley, meaning there is no need for Flanno anymore.
Its the same situation that we had with Martin Kelly, its a shame to lose these local lads but its a harsh game sometimes.
Think he'll be sold in the summer, would be a decent player for a lower Prem team or a Championship team looking for promotion.

it was a savage 2 years of injury for the lad in fairness.

Kelly did well for himself in the end. IMO having seen his debut in a CL game he was absolutely all over the place for the breif period he was in... (again academy doesn't help learning the pro game.)... he's done great to still be in prem.

Flanagan lost too much time there imo and i think he will struggle to get back his body to the game needed. like lucas.
