So is this thread about those derided on these boards and target of the boo boys because they aren't as skilful as their peers. They have not so obvious qualities, always put in 110%, and will fill any position.
From Mally Lord to David Meyler

Or is it some of our gems who the rest of the world didn't appreciate, and so never quite realised their potentials.
Waggy? I'd add Chris Galvin, maybe it's cos it coincides with when I started going regularly by myself.

Les Mutrie scored 14 goals for City in nine games in early 82, and was virtually unknown outside of Hull and overshadowed by 'colourful' Billy Whitehurst.

Stats say 49 goals in 114 league games and in his late 20s when he joined us. Arguably the best forward we've ever had at holding the ball up, he rarely gets a mention by people who never saw him play.
Abel Hernandez, Diomande & co can only dream of possessing that skill.
Very good on the ball with great close control , he scored a great late winner at Scunthorpe on a Friday night in '82 .

The Galvin shuffle was unique. Took me ages to master it.

Andy Flounders...on a goals per games played in the 80s he rates #1 of all our players since WWII...wasn't quick or skilful but he certainly knew how to score, averaging almost 1 every 2 games...but we let him go to Scunthorpe, where he scored almost 100 goals in 4 seasons, far too soon. But he never made the headlines.

What about Paul Haigh?
Local lad...played for England U21s when international honours meant summat and whilst on our books, another one written out of history.

My memories of Paul Haigh are that every shot he had went miles over the bar, which is probably totally wrong, and has distorted over the years.

And his blond Huddlestonesque haircut I seem to remember him having at one stage. Now someone will tell me that will be someone else.... <doh><doh><laugh><laugh>

Was Mark Greaves underrated by older supporters?

I was quite young at the time but he was one of my favourite players. Tough tackling utility man.

What are the old codger views of Greavesy?
