Good point made - the Allams couldn't even find Bruce without the help of Chapman, so who helped them find Silva..?
That's the point people are missing, the same can be said for Gary Rowett. Done well so far but could be the next highly regarded manager who fails in the premier league.
So highly regarded he's been out of work for 6 months. He'd have been a reasonable gamble had he got the full season and two windows with which to assemble a team. Half a window and less than half a season for a manager with no experience of our domestic game is a stretch too far. The domestic league in Greece is ****, whilst his record in Portugal was decent, beyond the top few clubs it's pretty poor. Rowett who is familiar with domestic football, he's managed two clubs very well under different constraints and done an excellent job. I'm biased though as I wanted Rowett as manager when Bruce left, he's a good 'fit' for a club like ours. Birmingham City fans were devastated at Rowett being forced out - look at how Zola has performed since.
If any of us actually knew with any certainty which would be better we wouldn't be expressing our opinions on a message board we'd be working for football clubs.
I'd be over the moon with either of them, I really like Rowett too. Just trying to look at the positives for Silva.
And Pochetino. People mocked from left right and centre when he replaced Adkins, yet within 2 months he had Saints looking like world beaters.
Most sources have him as a striker.. like this one on his signing for TWS: http://www.express.co.uk/sport/foot...ed-transfer-deal-confirmed-four-year-contract I really don't know why you're being so petty about this. TWS are clearly using him in midfield because he's better there now and suited there for him, but he was a striker in L2 and was regularly brought up during our striker discussions on here.
I just think it's the more exciting appointment of the 2 on offer. I'm not totally dismissing Rowett, it's just I get annoyed with this attitude that some fans have that are clearly with the dark ages. I coach football teams at varying levels and the game on a whole is stuffed from top to bottom with Bad coaching techniques etc. Which is why on a whole the majority of English Mangers are rubbish in reality and why European managers tend to be more succesfull as there game all the way from grass roots is better coached which in turn produces better coaches.
If they wanted Silva he should have been signed up before the season started. I only hope like OLM has suggested that this isn't an Allam like appointment and that the club has or is very near to being sold. That would be the very best possible outcome. I'd take the sale of the club before anything else as frankly under the Allam tenure the club stinks. The sooner that stench has been removed then the sooner we can move forwards.
I see where you are coming from, I don't deny Silva is the more exciting option and you're right a lot of people want Rowett purely because he's young and English. If you were to write a list of pro's and con's I think it would be hard to split the two, so it probably comes down to personal opinion. I slightly favour Rowett, although would in no way be disappointed with Silva, I suspect most people have a similar feeling, they prefer one but would still be happy with the other.
He played one or two games as a winger. He's now being deployed as a midfielder. He's played in midfield for approximately 25 out of 27 games, the other two as a winger. Yet you still insist he's a striker
Eh? I literally just said he may well be playing as a mid for TWS but that he was a striker in L2. Also last time I had this discussion I was told I was a know-nowt for thinking wingers weren't midfielders, dunno how I'm getting the short end of the stick from both sides now.
He may have been in L2. But in the Championship he is without doubt a midfielder. Therefore his achievements cannot be compared as he's playing a completely different position. He has been a part of the team that's made an impressive turnaround with Monk at the helm. Up to 5th in the league.
