Sorry, must have missed it. Yeah he was a very underwhelming appointment at the time and everyone was outraged that this bloke who couldn't speak English had turfed out Adkins who at the time everyone thought had been doing a great job with a squad destined to go back down.
I think it's worth the risk of something a bit different , I think rowett would have organised us , made us harder to beat but not keep us up , but then a good guy for next season .... Don't know anything about silva , but he might offer something to keep us up, I was sold when I heard he got fired for not wearing a suit , he might do something mental like play 2 up front and get some midfielders in the box
Stop writing sensible things! I keep having to like them all! How dare we have some ambition to possibly get a decent manager!
I stand by the fact I wanted Eddie Howe appointed as manager a few years ago and I stand by the fact I want Gary Rowett appointed now. That doesn't make this Silva bloke a bad appointment, I would rather give a young English manager a go than some random foreign bloke I had never heard of. Gary Rowett has done a good job at the two clubs he was at previously, he deserves a chance. I think we will go down anyway and I would fancy Rowett to bring us back up.
I think i'm pleased if he is appointed. in such a miserable season i'm happy to see/try something different, I'm also hoping he would help bring some signings from abroad that offer good value for money as we have struggled with this.
You're just going on the names of the clubs and not what that actually means. Silva has managed some big clubs in poor leagues, he's always had better players and more money than the majority of his rivals, plus he has no experience of the English game Rowett has managed some average clubs in competitive leagues and on a small budget, plus he knows the English game well. Which do you think is more applicable in our situation? Don't get me wrong I'd be happy for Silva to get the job, I just don't agree with writing off Rowett for the reasons you have stated.
Possibly being the key word. 18 games remaining. No experience of the English league. No experience or knowledge of our squad I would imagine. This'll work well.
But he was such a good striker in L2? He must be being played up front by TWS and banging them in? Isn't that what we keep getting told? That these lower league strikers are worth a punt because they'll score well? Like those 3 out of dozens that you named that did succeed?
And why do you think Rowett would be different? Silva has managed in the Champions League and is very highly regarded in European Football as a young up and coming manager. I for one am glad we are trying something different. Why should we bring in a manager so we can plan for the Championship next season! I'd rather bring one in who may just have us planning for Premier League football next season. And has been stated already, why is this 'no experience of the English league an issue' Steve McClaren has experience of the English League but he's still rubbish! As are numerous others. It means absolutely nack all. Plenty of decent managers have been given a chance and done very well having no previous English football experience
Fact is, we have no idea if Silva is the next Mourinho, or the next Zenga, we'll just have to wait and see.
You're the one trying to be a smart arse, he played as a striker in L2 and is either a striker or attacking mid. He was listed as a striker we should have gone for last season because of his L2 form as a striker. Ibra is doing better than I expected and I've owned up to that on numerous occasions, even when people made threads for no other reason than to take pot shots at me. I've been happy to own up to it, but others seem less able to admit when they're wrong.
I'm not sure why you're so resolutely defending Silva, I don't think anyones suggested he's a bad appointment per say. Both are very good options, probably better than we thought when Phelan was sacked. I can see why people would favour one or the other but ultimately both are a gamble and none of us, including you, know which would be more successful.
