Well let's hope we aren't offering over the odds now we signed Chamberlain - I'd hate to think half of the fee would go on one championship quality player.
Seen on another thread is Matty Upson who is on a free transfer - use money that would be used to buy a player to support his wages
As much as i would love to see Matt upson in a saints shirt.. giving him big wages might cause unrest in the soton dressing room!! Personally.. i think we should bring in someone who will want to fight for his place and hungry.. not a big time charlie!
We still have the funds from any deal for Puncheon. I think a pacy striker is what is required, Maynard, Jay Rod or Sordell. Anyone of these for around the £2 million mark would represent good business Left Wing Lallana Holmes Right Wing De Ridder Forte Strikers Connolly Lambert Barnard New Guy Guly to fill in gaps or play as attacking midfielder. Jay Rod looks like he could play up top by himself and would give us the option of playing Lallana & Guly/De Ridder in a three man attack if Lambert was injured or out of form
You wont get any of those 3 Strikers you mentioned for anywhere near £2mil id probably say double that for Rodriquez and Sordell and Triple it for Maynard.
Unless players are already in the supply line, their price has just gone up. Cortese may have to bite the bullet on that though. Think the team is strong at the moment, but the need for a couple of players will increase as we get into the season and the niggles start. Another CB and a striker please, Don.
CB must follow soon now. we heard for ages that one is 'definitely' coming in but yet to see the new face....
Reportedly, we nearly had Jemel and Gorkss (Jemel even had a medical) but they seem to baulk at the last fence..perhaps Saturdays performance will help some make a decision.
They say, Jemal pulled out because we wouldn't tell him how much we were buying him for (was concerned we were mugging his old club off) and Gorkss had a change of heart and decided he would fight for his place at QPR. The rumours circulating at the moment are Jay Rodriguez, Nicky Maynard and Matthew Upson - if one of those happens i'll be delighted.
Never understood that Jemel problem. Does that mean the buying club pays % of fee on to former club directly? Would have thought that the selling club pays any sell-on % to former club. Don't know, just wondering.
Upson?!? Not a chance, wages would be too high, he is at the end of his career & has become injury prone. I am surpised a newly promoted premiership side hasnt snapped him up, but there must be something wrong if that is the case...
I don't want the Saints to become a club that pays over the odds for Championship players. If that means missing out on the likes of Maynard, I'd happily swap it for the financial stability we haven't enjoyed...ever really!
Over the past two seasons we have signed players capable of playing in the Championship. Now we are signing players able to cut it in the Premiership. I doubt we will be signing anyone of a lesser ability just for cover. The current squad has half a dozen Premiership quality players. Any player coming into the squad now will have enough quality to be in the starting 11, i would imagine after the January window we will be close to having a team assembled ready to compete in the top flight. unfortunately some of the players who have helped us get this far will eventually become the cover resigned to sitting on the bench. What a fantastic position to be in! ....I haven't been this excited since the 80's
