Adkins in his post-Torquay interview said in answer to a question about more players coming in, 'maybe'. We effectively know that the Jemmal deal is off but now it sounds like the same could be said for others. I would be surprised if we didn't at least another player before the end of the month but Adkins doesn't sound as certain as he did a weeks back.
He's probably just being cautious as last time he said he was hopeful and then two CB deals fell through and we lost a player!
Looks like Dany N'Guessan had a great debut for Millwall. This is the second time that a player has gone from Saints to Millwall and notched up a great debut... strange http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14368505.stm
Latest rumour I've seen is Sylvain Ebanks-Blake for £3.5m - seems unlikely to me, but would be a good signing and £3.5m makes a mockery of the £5M+ Bristol have put on Maynard
S E B is past his best in my opinion and packing a few pounds. I would be disappointed with this one.
A lot of ex-Saints have gone on to play well elsewhere, sometimes you just don't fit a particular team. N'Guessan, talented player no doubt, didn't fit in with Nigel's idea of a team player. Had a strop on the pitch in one of his few appearances. (No evidence for that if someone asks..another poster saw him arguing with NA). That's why I don't think we'll sign any past-their-best Prem players, except for in an emergency.
Burnley are down to two fit strikers in their entire squad. Just can't see them parting with him now unless they get a huge offer. Maybe one that gets pushed through on deadline day if we havn't sorted anyone else out, but looks doubtful right now.
The simple fact he isn't very good. His scoring record in the Premiership is appalling and save for one season, wasn't very good in the Championship. As well as that most of his goals simply come from prodding it in from close range, not the kind of player we need.
Heard a rumour that scouts were looking at François Zoko from Carlisle. While there is probably very little truth in it, I can't help but think this would be exactly the kind of striker we need. Zoko has obvious qualities but has never played higher than League 1. He'll want to play and prove himself at Championship level but he wont be a nailed on starter to begin with, just back-up. I can see this sort of player coming rather than other names that are being mentioned at the moment.
Championship record: 2007/08 Plymouth/Wolves: 23 League Goals 2008/09 Wolves: 25 League Goals He's quick and strong, got 7 goals last season in games such as Man United and Everton.
Okay, didn't realise 07/08 was good too. In which case I'm less apprehensive about him but he has been terrible in the Premiership, 7 goals, but most of which I could have scored. But yeah, don't think it'd be nearly as bad in the knowledge he has had more than one season.
I thought Zoko was quality last season, full of pace and always working hard. He might not have scored a lot of goals but if he's put with the right players around him - Lallana, Cork etc I reckon he'll do well
